RONALD (RON) LLOYD
Date of Passing: Apr 24, 2024
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD (RON) LLOYD
Peacefully at Meadowood Manor on April 24, 2024, our family lost a very special man who will forever have an impact on our lives.
Ronald (Ron) Lloyd will be missed by his daughters, Cheryl (Peter Kohanek), Laureen (Doug Forbes), and Brenda (Ron Copeland). He will also be missed by grandchildren, Garrett (Shannon) and Travis (Justin); Gillian and Erica; Alyssa, Dylan, and our sweet Angel Carly. He was blessed with great-grandsons, Oliver and Izaak.
Ron was predeceased by Muriel, his wife of 57 years, and by his brother Owen.
Family was everything to Dad. His daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandsons were his greatest gifts. He shared special relationships with each of them and has left life lessons with them all.
Ron was born in Mather, Manitoba and he moved to Winnipeg where he met and then married Muriel in 1954.
Ron’s career was spent at Thomas Jackson & Sons Ltd. , which became Supercrete Ltd., and then became Lafarge. It was here where he retired, and then he started to live the life that he had looked forward too.
Over his lifetime he enjoyed curling, fishing, golfing and watching baseball and hockey. It was his love of sport that led him to coach his daughters’ softball teams for a number of years, even in their adulthood.
In later years Ron took up woodcarving and spent many hours with chisels in hand. He was coaxed into this "hobby" post-retirement, as a means of satisfying his long standing interest in the craft. He loved doing it, his work was outstanding, and his pieces are proudly displayed by happy customers and family members alike.
Ron was very involved in the curling world, joining the Fort Garry Curling Club in the 1960s. He spent countless hours there in many capacities - it was his home away from home and his involvement rewarded him with treasured lifelong friends. Ultimately his love of the game and of the club was passed to his family, most of who still play the game.
Ron thrived on being involved in the sport and he left his mark on curling organizations such as the Manitoba Curling Association, the Past President’s Association, the Interclub Curling League, the O’Grady Cup, and the annual Canada/US Goodwill trips.
Ron received Honorary Life Memberships from Manitoba Curling Association, Past Presidents Association of Manitoba Curling Clubs, Fort Garry Curling Club, Fort Garry Seniors Curling Club, and Interclub Curling League.
In addition, he received recognitions such as the Bill Lumsden Memorial Award For Volunteerism, the Manitoba Curling Association Club Volunteer Award, The Fort Garry Curling Club Guy Steinhoff Sportsmanship Award, and in 1965, he and his team were inducted into the Canada Dry 8-Ender Club.
Ron made the most of his leisure time, and he absolutely loved his many years with family and close friends at Idle Wheels RV Park, Lilac Resort RV Park, and at the cottage in Sandy Hook. Many wonderful memories were made there.
For our family, the future will not be as bright without him. He will be forever missed, but life without him will be easier knowing that we have all learned enough from him to carry on his legacy of bringing joy to others and of putting smiles on faces.
Over the years we have accumulated treasured memories of Dad’s time at Dakota House Assisted Living Residence, Poseidon Long-Term Care Home, and Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home. He was so happy and he felt safe while there - we are so very, very grateful for the wonderful care that he received.
A Celebration of Ron’s Life will take place at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.

On behalf of the Fort Garry Curling Club Executive, I offer our most sincere condolences to Ron's family and also a genuine THANK YOU. Ron was a member of the Friendly Fort for over 50 years! A tireless and modest volunteer, Past President and truly deserving Honorary Life Member, Ron truly was part of the Fort Garry family. We have now lost a very dear member of our family. Ron's personality and character will be dearly missed by those of us who came after him. Ron, and those like him, are a huge reason why our generation got involved in the curling club. Ron, we will do our utmost best to keep what you had huge hand in building and fostering, going...........for many years to come. Thank you Ron for all you did. Rest in peace. My condolences to Cheryl and her entire family on their loss. I always thought of the Lloyd family as the gold standard in family values. Ron and his wife led by example, resulting in kind, respectful, admirable daughters. I will cherish the memories of spending time with the family and feel blessed to have had that opportunity. Ron's kindness and core values, no doubt, will live on his children and their children. My thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Tracy Szumlak (Yesis/Picken) (Friend) on: May 06, 2024

Ron was a very gentle soul, whenever I went to clean his suite we always had very nice visits. I even found out through the visits that he knew my father. He knew of my dad through curling and my dad's fiddle music. Rest in peace Ron. - Posted by: Theresa Carrette (Friend and housekeeper (retired) at Dakota House ) on: May 04, 2024

Mr. Lloyd was always welcoming to our family whenever we met him either at Sandy Hook or at Cheryl and Peter’s home for dinner. He always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye. Spoke with interest and curiosity in everyone’s lives. His legacy will certainly live on in the love of all his family. Rest at peace Mr. Lloyd. Your bride is waiting for the next dance. - Posted by: Marianne (Friend of the family) on: May 04, 2024
