SYLVIA HUEBERT
With deep sadness, Terry Huebert and Debra (Paul) Roppolo announce the death of their mother, Sylvia Huebert, aged 82, at Grace Hospital.
Sylvia was endlessly curious about the world - political science and world affairs fascinated her almost as much as other cultures, languages and ways of life. It was a curiosity that stayed with her to the end and she never ceased being thankful for the travelling she was able to experience. Self-educated, she could move seamlessly in any circle and hold her own in virtually any conversation. Books, music and art fed her soul, passions she shared with her children from the time we were born. Mum passed on to us her curiosity, along with her fierce independence, bone-dry humour and deep love of animals. She raised us to believe that everyone is equal, regardless of skin colour or station in life, and that love is love. As our mother, she embodied strength and love in so many ways.
We will remember and miss her always, as will her dearest friend of more than 50 years, Douglas Paterson, and brother- and sister-in-law Paul Huebert and Paulette Touby.
At Syl's request, there will be no service.
Our thanks go to the wonderful nurses and aides at Grace Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre. Their gentleness and compassion made a very difficult time a little easier. And our deepest gratitude goes to longtime friends and neighbours Roy and Dolores Kratsch, whose help and kindness allowed Mum to stay in her own home for as long as she did.
Mum always said flowers were for the living...therefore, anyone who wishes to honour her memory could do so in her name with a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society, Winnipeg Pet Rescue, or Dying With Dignity.
