Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH SOPHIE SYLVIA FRYFOGLE
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Elizabeth Fryfogle at St. Boniface Hospital on May 2, 2024. She was 89 years old.
Liz is lovingly remembered by sons Tod (Laurie) and Gordon (Cathy) and daughter Monica; grandchildren Chase, Kyle and Peyton; sisters Elsie Zasitko (Peter), Lovey Toonstra and Iris Peterson; sister-in-law Pat Fryfogle; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Liz was predeceased by her husband of over 52 years Gerald Fryfogle; parents William and Mary Kucy; brothers-in-law John Toonstra and Barry Fryfogle; and sister-in-law Connie Foxton.
Liz was born in Poplarfield, Manitoba, the second of four daughters. The family moved to Winnipeg when she was eight years old. After graduating from Isaac Newton High School, she worked at Traders Finance (MTS) from 1956 through the fall of 1958. She moved briefly to Vancouver and then on to Toronto in 1959, working for Remington Rand.
In Toronto, Liz met Gerry on a blind date in 1959, moving back to Winnipeg to get married on September 24, 1960. Here, Liz found her true calling as a wife, mother and homemaker while Gerry was employed as a firefighter, ultimately retiring with the rank of captain.
Liz was an excellent cook, celebrating her Ukrainian heritage by preparing kishka, perogies, cabbage rolls and borscht for her family. Her perogies were "world renowned" (or at least we thought they were!) Her other specialties included chicken soup, pork buttons, breaded shrimp, mini-cheese and bacons and Christmas shortbread. She prided herself on keeping a perfect home for her family, tackling her household chores with gusto.
There were numerous family trips over the years- to Florida, Minneapolis and Maui. Favorite destinations were Wingham, Ontario where Gerry grew up, Edmonton to visit Barry and Pat, and San Jose, California to see Tod, Laurie, Chase, Kyle and Peyton.
A woman of many interests, Liz was an expert cribbage and knock player. She loved watching movies and sharing stories around the kitchen table. She loved music—playing the saxophone in her youth—and later, listening to Elvis Presley and George Jones. Her favourite pastime in recent years was watching the Winnipeg Jets on television.
In keeping with Liz's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service.
A private Celebration of Life will be scheduled.
