Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES RICHARD CHURCHILL GRAYDON
Beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Brother-in-Law, Father-in-Law, Colleague, Teacher, Principal, and Friend. Dad’s career in education spanned more than 45 years, beginning in New Zealand (where he also served as an Army Reserve Sergeant), moving to Scotland (where he met the love of his life, Betty Ann), and thereafter unfolding in Winnipeg. Here he worked as a teacher at Faraday, Vice Principal at Lord Roberts and Gordon Bell, and Principal at Luxton, William Whyte, Issac Brock, Wellington and John M. King schools.
In retirement he worked as a faculty advisor for student teachers at the University of Manitoba and served as Chair of the Board of Regents for the University of Winnipeg. Throughout the course of 40 years, Dad volunteered at Kildonan Community Church in just about every conceivable role - which he loved doing. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, camping, travelling, sailing, reading, and listening to classical music.
People admired and appreciated Dad for his steadfast commitment, professionalism and leadership abilities; he strived to go above and beyond in everything he did. He is loved and survived by his wife Betty Ann, daughters, Jenny (Craig) and Heather (Majid), grandson Daniel, and many dear extended family members.
Funeral to be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in Kildonan Community Church (2373 Main Street, Winnipeg). Interment to be held at a future date.

My deepest condolences to Betty Ann and family on the loss of a wonderful person. Richard Graydon was my Principal when I was a young teacher in the 70s. Richard was an excellent administrator and encouraged me to enter administration. Richard was a caring and well respected leader and I will always remember Richard’s kind and supportive nature. We’ve lost a very good person and an excellent educator. - Posted by: Marcey Dveris (Colleague) on: Jun 22, 2024

I was twelve when the Graydons moved across the street from our place in Kildonan. They quickly became a supportive and active part of our community. Betty Ann was part of our ladies lunch group where I got to know her well and I always saw Richard at all the community and church functions. A standout forever memory was to have the honor of Richard leading the New Zealand Haka (dance) at my wedding and again at our 25th anniversary! It was wonderful! My deepest sympathy to Betty Ann and family. - Posted by: Aileen George (Neighbour ) on: Jun 06, 2024

I am so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. I cam to know Richard at the University of Winnipeg. Since his retirement, I looked forward to seeing him as a regular attendee at the University of Winnipeg convocations. He was always such a quiet and humble person who exuded integrity. I will cherish our talk last year and will deeply miss him at this and future year's convocations. My prayers and condolences go out to the family. - Posted by: Glen Bergeron (Colleague) on: Jun 04, 2024

Sorry to hear of Mr. Graydon's passing. I grew up down the street from him and his family. Played with Jenny and Heather as kids. I always remember him being the kindest man.
