LUCILLE QUEREL

April 22, 1926 - June 3, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Lucille Querel (nee Guilbault) on June 3, 2024, at the age of 98 with her family by her side.

She was predeceased by her husband, Mike Querel of 72 years. She will be sadly missed by her children, Kenneth (Joanne), Robert (Diane), Janice (Jack Herrod) and Donna (Blaine Gysler). She also leaves to mourn eight grandchildren - Trevor, Kristen, Richard, Denise, Jordan, Joel, Kyle, and Kevin and 19 great grandchildren.

Lucille was born in Saint Boniface on April 22, 1926, to Henri and Eugenie Guilbault. She was the third child of seven children who grew up in Woodridge, Manitoba. She often talked of her happy childhood with her siblings. She is survived by her brother Ray Guilbault (Louise), sister Simonne (Dennis) Hayward, and sister-in-law Rita Querel.

Lucille worked for Canada Post in her late teens and then worked for Vrignon general store until her marriage to Mike Querel on November 27, 1948. She and Mike raised four children in Woodridge until they moved to Winnipeg in 1975. They resided in their home until Mike’s passing in 2021. While raising their children Lucille contributed to the success of their various business ventures. As we know, “behind every successful man is a strong woman”.

Mom and Dad’s home was always open to family and friends. Everyone was invited into their home for coffee and conversation. Mom could always whip up a great meal for anyone who dropped by and there was always room at their table. No one was ever turned away.

Mom enjoyed knitting and word puzzles, doing the jumble puzzle from the daily newspaper. Mom was known for her great baking. Poppyseed rolls, burnt sugar pie, Mazzola rolls, baked beans and tourtiere to name a few.

In retirement she enjoyed relaxing, watching game shows like Jeopardy and Family Feud. She loved travelling with her two daughters, whether it was shop till you drop, shopping trips to the states or numerous trips east to the Maritimes or a whirlwind tour of France at the age of 75.

But most of all Mom had a great sense of humor. She always had a smile on her face. When people reminisce about Mom, the common thread throughout their stories are her ready smile and her cheerful demeanour. We could go on and on about Mom’s generous nature and many wonderful qualities but there just isn’t enough room on this page. Unfortunately, dementia took pieces of our Mom from us, but she never failed to recognize any of us. We will miss you forever Mom.

We would like to thank the Hudson Bay Health Care Facility for their excellent care and compassion, especially during her last hours. Therefore, in memory of Mom, donations can be made to the Hudson Bay Health Care Facility, 614 Prince Street, Hudson Bay, SK S0E 0Y0

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 13 at Green Acres Funeral Home

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Our deepest sympathy to Lucille’s family on this sad day for Ken, Bob, Janice, Donna and all other family members. Our thoughts and prayers were with each and every one of you. We were there in spirit, but wishing we could have been there in person. Unfortunately, we could not see her service. We were very disappointed not being able to at least participate with your loss. We did let our parish aware of your Mom’s passing, and we had a Mass said for her. She was very dear, and loved by us, and she will be forever in our hearts. All our love, Ray, Louise and family. - Posted by: Ray Guilbault (Brother) on: Jun 15, 2024

  • My deepest sympathies on the loss of your Mother. Denise (daughter of Denis Gerardy) - Posted by: Denise Patenaude (None) on: Jun 08, 2024
