Brian Croxford, a dedicated community leader and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024, at the age of 90. Born in Rainy River on December 16, 1933, Brian lived a life marked by service, passion, and unwavering support for those he loved.
Brian's commitment to his community was evident in his many roles, including serving as a school trustee and, assisted by his wife, June, as a coach for soccer and ringette at the Melrose Community Club. His dedication to coaching continued even after his own children had finished playing, earning him the affectionate nickname "Mr. C" from the athletes he mentored.
Professionally, Brian excelled as a revenue industrial accountant for CN Rail and held the esteemed position of president of the Manitoba Provincial Revenue Industrial Accountants. His leadership and expertise were highly respected among his peers.
A man of many passions, Brian loved his dogs and cherished his days at the family cabin at Grand Beach. He and June delighted in hosting family gatherings at the cabin, creating memories that will be treasured by all who knew him. Brian also had a deep love for travel, particularly when it involved supporting his daughter Tara's athletic pursuits. He and June proudly attended the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona to cheer her on, exemplifying his unwavering support for his daughters throughout their lives.
Brian's volunteerism was a testament to his generous spirit. He stepped up as a chauffeur to the hen club, served as a Scout leader, despite not having boys of his own, and volunteered for the track and field events at the 1999 Pan Am Games. His involvement extended to his role as secretary of his golf association and his participation in the philharmonic choir, where he shared his love of singing.
An avid reader, Brian always found joy in the written word, and his intellectual curiosity was a hallmark of his character. His legacy of love, service, and dedication will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Brian Croxford is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 66 years, June, daughters, Cheryl (Doug) Castor, Heather (August) Sawchuk, and Tara (Tim) Berrett, seven grandchildren, Sarah, Tyler, Will, Laryssa, Brenden, Emma, and Fraser, one great-grandson James, and a wide circle of friends and community members who will miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in honour of Brian's lifelong commitment to helping others.
A celebration of Brian's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at John Black Memorial United Church (898 Henderson Hwy.), where all who knew him are welcome to share their memories and pay their respects.
Brian Croxford will be remembered as a pillar of his community, a devoted husband and family man, and a mentor to many. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
