He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Grace Wilks (The Woodlands, Texas), Hayden Kane (Calgary), Alexander Glowa (Calgary and The Woodlands, Texas), Thomas Wilks (The Woodlands, Texas), and Ellie Glowa (The Woodlands, Texas). Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Katherine Glowa, and his brother, Gordon Glowa, George was a devoted family man who took immense pride in his grandchildren's activities, from sporting events to recitals.
George graduated from River East Collegiate in Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba with a BA in Economics. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for over 40 years. A lifelong Blue Bombers and dedicated Jets fan, he was known in his childhood to fall asleep with his ear to the radio, listening to late-night Bombers broadcasts. An avid golfer, George was often found on the links in Alberta and the Columbia Valley with friends and family. Though Calgary was his home, George always cherished his time spent in Radium, BC with friends and family.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical and nursing staff at Foothills Hospital for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in George's name to any agency helping Ukrainian refugees in Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
George will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and sports teams.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive, NW ) on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a light lunch at the church.
