EUGENE WILLIAM DRUL

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Eugene William Drul, on June 14, 2024, at the age of 83.

Eugene will be remembered by son Kerry (Amber) and grandson Liam and many other friends and family. He will be missed by his brother Micheal (Shelly). He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Barb, brother Morris (Bea) and parents, Nellie and Paul.

Eugene was born in Menzie, Manitoba on December 13, 1940. He moved to Winnipeg where he met his wife Barb and married in 1962. He worked at Norwood television and then moving onto Burns Meats where he retired. He finished his career with his own small construction company Windsor Park Construction. He spent the later years of his life caring for his beloved wife Barb until her passing in 2022. The last couple of years he spent with family and friends. He enjoyed being outside in yard tending to his roses and tomatoes. He also enjoyed driving his convertible red Camaro.

Eugene was a very loving, generous and caring man. He enjoyed getting together with friends and family and sharing laughs. Eugene was also an avid Winnipeg sports fan and enjoyed watching Jet and Bomber games and commenting on their performance. A couple of his favourite one liners are “Getting old is for the birds” and “It is what it is”.

We would also like to thank the staff on the 4th floor of Poseidon Long Term Care Home for everything they did to make him feel welcome and comfortable.

  • Kerry and family, I am so sorry to hear about Eugene. I will always remember his faithful visits to Barb while she was at Bethania! He taught me about what faithfulness to a spouse means and he told me he took his vows at their wedding very seriously. We could all see the love he had for her and how seriously he took those vows when even during Covid, he did a daily drive past her window at the home. My visits with him in the front office were always appreciated. May the memories you have carry you through this difficult time. - Posted by: Erna Wiebe (Friend) on: Jun 29, 2024

  • Sincerest Sympathy to Kerry, Amber, Liam, Mike, Shelley & Family. I have such fond memories of working with Gene as well as socializing with him. It’s comforting to know he is reunited with his precious Barbie Doll. I hope you find comfort during this very sad time of loss with the precious memories and love you all so evidently shared. • To Mikey and family & Eugene's children and grandchildren: We are so sorry to hear of Eugene’s passing, he was our boss at Burns Meats for many years and we had the pleasure of meeting your Mum on a couple occasions, both were the sweetest people. Eugene affectionately known as (BOSS) to Lori was great to work for, always kind and fair, we also had a lot of good laughs with him. We will remember him always with fondness and respect. • Deepest sympathy to Eugene's family. Eugene and I met at weddings at Oakburn. I was from Minnedosa and had family in that area. After moving to Winnipeg in 1960 I again met Eugene at a dance. Later on meeting at dance I introduced him to my friend Barbara. Barbara was from Minnedosa area. This turned into love at first sight. Barbara was my son’s godmother. Your father was a loving and kind man. Talked with him the last time and he wanted us to have a visit.. Always too late. Rest In Peace - Posted by: Lydia Michasiw Boychuk (Friend ) on: Jun 22, 2024

  • My husband Ken, (who died in 2013) and I knew both Barb and Eugene for many years. We also lived in Windsor Park and met through mutual friends and hockey. Many good memories and sad to hear the news. Sincere condolences to Kerry and family. - Posted by: Eileen Asselstine (friend) on: Jun 22, 2024

  • Deepest sympathy! Eugene and I were childhood friends in Menzie! We spent countless hours getting our Menzie school yard ready for our Harrower sports days which including killing many snakes, this is my fondest and funniest memory of Eugene and me! We were so naive thinking when he hit the snakes with a hoe, they were dead. We hung at least 50 of them on the fence, very proud of ourselves, the next morning when we went back and all the snake had come to an slithered away. Imagine our shock! Even now I have a giggle how very noble we were and then nothing. When we moved to Oakburn I lost track of Eugene, but the childhood memories, I will have forever! Let all your good memories help cushion this enormous grief from losing your father and grandfather. - Posted by: Sonia LambLrykolowich (childhood friend) on: Jun 22, 2024

  • I worked with Eugene at Burns in the early 70's. He was the guy to have in your corner. When I needed a new color T.V., he found me one, and at a bargain price. He made this world a better place. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: John Evan (ex-coworker) on: Jun 22, 2024
