Once in a while there comes along a person who attracts others to her like butterflies. Grace was well-loved and loved well in return. Her greatest love was being surrounded by family and company was always welcome in her home.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Grace’s passing on June 14, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband Frank and her son Garry. Left to mourn are her brother Frank Hemming; her sons, Norm (Randi) and Glenn as well as her daughter-in-law Judy along with Judy’s children, Jared (Meagan) and Cailin (Steph) and Glenn’s children, Robyn (Mark), Bryan (Claudia) and Randi (Travis) as well as her ten great-grandchildren, Taylor, Avery, Lucas, Dallas, Riley, Jake, Mila, Liam, Amelie and Talia. Also, are the many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. In true Grace fashion she loved them all.
Grace had no daughters so her nieces became the daughters-of-her-heart. She had a special kinship with her nieces, Gayle Halliwell, Brenda Thomas and Gerilyn Mekish. After the death of her husband Frank, Grace and her sister Edith managed one international adventure to Sweden where, with the help of Swedish relatives, they discovered their mother’s birthplace. Grace also took Caribbean cruises with her sisters-in-law, Minnie and Rose Steski, as well as one to Alaska with Gayle. Bus tours followed and included the Maritimes, Nashville and Branson.
Born to Swedish parents in Lundar, Manitoba Grace didn’t speak English until she entered school and she set about to teach her younger siblings as well. With her positive and curious outlook she was working by her mid-teens and learned to be a competent seamstress. She sewed for her family and extended family including bridal dresses. Grace enjoyed many years of bowling with family and friends and, after meeting Frank, she learned about curling and became a lifelong fan. When her children were grown she took up golf and enjoyed many rounds with Frank and other family members, as well as during winter vacations in Las Vegas with Frank.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Golden Links Lodge for their excellent care over the last number of years. Grace truly enjoyed her residence there.
Everyone who knew Grace has their own memories of her but all will agree that she will be remembered for her kindness. A graveside interment will take place at a later date. In the meantime say a prayer, raise a glass or gather together and share memories of a truly remarkable woman.

My mum and Grace were good friends working at shops in Grant Park. I remember babysitting the boys and always had fond memories of spending time at both homes in Fort Rouge. a wonderful woman. - Posted by: Shirley Lord (Former neighbour on Garwood) on: Jun 22, 2024
