BARBARA MITCHELL

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and cousin, Barbara Ann Mitchell, who passed on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 2:05 p.m. She was the only child of George and Molly Mitchell.

Barbara is survived by her loving cousins, Shirley, David Mains, Tom Bourbonnier and Donna of Winnipeg, John Bourbonnier and Mitse of Whiterock, BC, Joanna Conley and Neal of Wheaton, IL, Madeline Hatch and Eldon of Naperville, IL and Paul Smit and Diane of Boise, ID.

Barb was a beloved soul who lived life fully and cared deeply about her family and friends. She was a Christian and took her faith seriously.

She had the good fortune to travel to the Holy Land to walk where Jesus walked in Israel and to see the Pyramids in Egypt, and to travel by train through the Copper Canyon with her beloved Aunt Eva.

Barb lost her mother when she was only 21. Dear friends of her parents, Charlie and Evelyn Wheeler, helped nurture her and cherished her throughout their lives.

Her faithful companion was a much-loved golden cocker spaniel named Batsie. Barb had a love for dogs and cats; her feline friends, Tiger and her other special companions, were dear to her.

Barb loved music. She played the piano and sang in the choir at Calvary Temple until the COVID-19 pandemic. In her later years, she joined a seniors' choir in Winnipeg and enjoyed her time in it.

Barb worked at the Health Sciences Centre, formerly the General Hospital. She moved to Montreal, where she lived for three years. Upon returning to Winnipeg, she worked at the Misericordia Hospital as an assistant secretary to the director of nursing for many years.

Barb valued her membership with the Connections Group at Calvary Temple. She volunteered at the Union Gospel Mission in the outreach program for women with addictions.

Unfortunately, Barb had a series of falls and was hospitalized and unable to walk.

Barb was a prayer warrior who loved the Lord.

We will miss our dear and wonderful Barb and treasure our times with her. She will remain in our minds and hearts.

Thanks be to God.

Thank you to those at the Health Sciences Centre, the Grace Hospital, the Misericordia Health Care Centre, and the Concordia Hospital who were dedicated in their earnest efforts to help her.
