TONY SARRAINO SR.

Passed peacefully, with his family by his side, on June 22, 2024, at Riverview Heath Centre at 88 years old.

Tony will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Maria and his children, Tony (Deidre), Maria (Danny Albrechtsen), Sal (Joanne) and Joe (Andrea) and his grandchildren, Kyle (Bailey), Ryan and Gabrielle. He also leaves behind his sister Sally Scaletta (late Ignazio) and brother Enzo.

Born on September 22, 1935, in Termini Imerese, Sicily, Tony left behind his life as a fruit and olive farmer in 1959 to immigrate to Winnipeg. He married the love of his life Maria Coniglio in 1961 and became a master tile setter renowned for his craftsmanship. Together they shared a full life raising their four children, socializing, travelling and supporting the Winnipeg Jets as boosters.

Tony lived life with gusto. He was passionate about sports, the Blue Bombers, and the Jets in particular. Whatever he decided to undertake he did it with a competitive edge such as bocci and five pin bowling; he passed his love of gardening, fruit tree grafting and Italian sausage making on to his children and grandchildren. A natural storyteller, Tony relished sharing stories of his youth in Sicily and often would laugh at his own punchlines. Having worked hard to build a comfortable life for his family in Winnipeg, he was frugal for himself but generous to others and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Please join us on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. for his celebration of life at Holy Rosary Catholic Church located at 510 River Avenue with condolences starting at 9:00 a.m. and a reception after the church service. A private interment will follow for the immediate family.

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Palliative Care Team for the care at home and the 3 East Palliative Care Unit staff and doctors at Riverview Health Centre for their kindness and compassionate care.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in Tony’s memory may be made to: Heart and Stroke Foundation and Riverview Health Centre Foundation.
