WENDY CAROLE WINSLOW
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished mother and grandmother, Wendy Winslow, on June 13, 2024, in Victoria, British Columbia.
Wendy will be lovingly remembered by her husband Grenville Winslow, daughter Heather Hilo (Emad), son Peter Winslow (Réka), beloved grandchildren, Julia, Ben, and Kiana, her many nieces and nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends.
Wendy was born in Winnipeg to her beloved parents, Morland Oswald Thomas (Ossie) and Veronica Mae Vanderlip (Bunny). She was predeceased by her brother Jack Thomas (June), and her sister Patricia Mae (Joe). Wendy and her older sister Pat had a very special bond and lived within walking distance of each other for 40 years.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Wendy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Post Baccalaureate Teaching Certificate and Special Education Certificate from the University of Manitoba. She wore many hats during her teaching career with the Winnipeg School Division, ranging from teaching nursery and special education students, to eventually finding her dream job as a teacher librarian at St. John's High School. Wendy loved to read and her love of literature was infectious. She was a member of many book clubs and enjoyed discussing books and world events.
Wendy spent every summer at the family cottage at Victoria Beach for 26 years. She loved everything about the cottage, especially spending time playing in the waves with her cherished grandchildren; hosting family and friends from out of town, in particular her nephew John, niece Mary Lou and her children, and best friend Janice; planting her beautiful “pelican” garden and visiting with her large group of “beach bunch” friends.
Family and friends were vitally important to Wendy and she made a special effort to stay in touch with those she loved in person, on the phone or online. Wendy radiated love, compassion, kindness, humour, sunshine, and a joy for living! Wendy was the most giving and generous person with all those around her, especially her family, close friends, pets (Gizzie, Missy and Bella) and, in particular, her grandchildren who she loved deeply.
Wendy was a kind, caring, compassionate, giving, generous, beautiful person who will be forever deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know her. “When I count what’s precious in my life, I always count you twice.” (Snoopy)
Arrangements are in care of Sands Funeral Chapel Cremation and Reception Centre (Victoria).
If family and friends so desire, a donation can be made in her memory to Ronald McDonald House Charities British Columbia & Yukon, 4567 Heather Street, Vancouver, BC V5Z 0C9, (604) 736-2957, https://rmhbc-in-memory.raisely.com/wendywinslow

I met this lovely, friendly, smart lady when we were both enrolled in post grad education courses in the early 90’s and I am so grateful that our friendship continued, grew & expanded through the years, Victoria Beach being the catalyst. It was at VB that Bill and I came to know Gren and where we had many wonderful times with the Winslows and oftentimes other mutual friends. Though we certainly were disappointed when Wendy & Gren decided to move to Vancouver Island almost 2 years ago, we were also happy that they were joining their kids and grandkids in that gorgeous part of Canada. I will so miss your beautiful photos, comments on political situations, interesting articles, cartoons that were right on, book title sharings, family updates, etc. — and mostly your friendship, Wendy. Rest In peace. Bill & I send our love and sympathy to Gren and to Heather & Peter and their families. ❤️Deanne - Posted by: Deanne McDonald (Friend) on: Jul 14, 2024

To Wendy's family. I would like to express my sincere condolences on your loss. Wendy was an amazing friend to my mother, Jean, right to the end. I am so sorry mom wasn't strong enough to get back on a Zoom chat one last time before Wendy passed. My father, Ron, was bolstered by Wendy's positive demeanour on her "several times a week" phone calls for months while Mom remained in hospital. The world has lost a very kind woman with a shining heart. - Posted by: Sharon (Jean Rennie's daughter) (Frienf) on: Jul 07, 2024
