Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD JOHN LAGIEWKA
On Sunday, May 26, 2024, Edward John Lagiewka passed away peacefully at Portage District General Hospital in Portage la Prairie. He was 76 years of age. Ed was born on December 29, 1947, in Brauweiler, Germany.
He was predeceased by his wife Joan and his parents, Joseph and Maria Lagiewka. He leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories his sons, Christian (Becky), Kyle (Melanie), daughter Deanne (Kevin), and grandchildren, Lily, Cole, Jackson, Alexa, Nicole and Ryan; his brother Rick (Norinne) and niece Jacquelyn, and sister Doris (Thom) and his nephews, Kelly (Sarah) and Arron (Caitlin).
Ed enjoyed spending his time with family and friends, coaching soccer, travelling south and cooking, especially at Christmas as it gave him more family time. He was Joan's little helper when it came to carpentry projects and was always willing to make a suggestion that would almost always be instantly shut down.
As a coach, he thrived on teaching the fundamentals and having fun, which lead to a record nine in-a-row city championships at the youth level.
Ed loved getting away from the cold winters with Joan to Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Texas, Florida, and Arizona where they enjoyed the warm weather and amazing eateries, especially Dirty Al's on South Padre Island.
You are now back with Joan where you may continue in your adventures together and watch over us.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Portage District General Hospital who cared for him in the final year of his life.
A Celebration of Life service will take place in the future with details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Portage Animal Welfare Society Inc. (121 – 12th St. N.E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 4A2) can be made.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your father/grandfather/loved one, Ed. I worked with Ed for many years at the City of Winnipeg Parks & Rec Dept., City Center Fort Rouge branch - Ed was my supervisor and mentor, and I grew to respect and love him dearly. I also got to know and love Joan. I'm sorry that I am late in sending my condolences to you all but I just now found out that Ed passed this May 2024 - I now live in MN and have for the past 28 years so have been "out of the loop". The fact that I was thinking of Ed this morning, so googled him, after not seeing him for ~35 years truly demonstrates what an impact he had on my thinking, my belief system, my values - i.e. on my being. I loved working with him - we both worked hard, we both believed strongly in & fought for community development and cross-cultural services, and in the importance of personal integrity. I want to stress to you all again how much I value his humanity, his intelligence, his kindness, his wit, and the relationship that we had. He was a rascal with a twinkle in his eye. I have IMMENSE respect for Ed. I am truly heartbroken to learn of his passing as I had hoped that we would see one another again and laugh together about old times. Please be very proud of Ed and all his good good work that he did in his lifetime. I will never forget him. - Posted by: Sandra G. McNichol (Friend) on: Oct 14, 2024

Ed was always there to lend a helping hand as was Joan. Having a beer and long talks were the best. Mostly talking about soccer. Miss you both until I see you again ❤️❤️❤️ - Posted by: Lorne Dyck (Neighbour ) on: Aug 24, 2024
