JAMES (JIM) EDWARD KIRK

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jim, our dear son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many at the age of 55. Jim passed away suddenly in Virden on the evening of May 24, 2024, with his fur companion, Lady, by his side.

Jim was born April 7, 1969, in Hamiota, MB, to parents Don (Butch) and Audrey Kirk (nee Waddell).

Jim grew up enjoying life on the farm and being dad’s helper during seeding and harvest times. Along with his brother Ken and friends they were often out on their motorbikes exploring the countryside. Years later many stories were revealed from these excursions. Curling was his passion and golfing was enjoyed in his young adulthood.

Memories were built at the cabin where he and his buddies loved to be in the water canoeing, fishing and water skiing and being typical teenage boys goofing around.

For after school and summer jobs Jim worked for Daryl Badger Painting, DeBin’s Service Station Hamiota and Shoal Lake, The Town of Hamiota and the Hamiota IGA Grocery Store. In 1994, he joined the staff at Southend Lumber in Brandon where he was still employed at the time of his death. In 2013, Jim changed jobs for a brief time and started employment with Tundra Oil. Due to health reasons, he had to leave Tundra and eventually was back working with Southend Lumber where he had become friends with not only the staff but some community members as well. Jim was kind, friendly, patient and would do anything to help his customers and contractors. He will be dearly missed at Southend Lumber and forever loved in the hearts of his family and co-workers.

Jim was predeceased in 2012 by his Dad, Butch Kirk and his Uncle Bruce Waddell in 1997. He will be lovingly remembered by his constant fur companion, Lady, mother Audrey (Cam), brother Ken and Sharla and their daughter Brenna (Trevor) Gardner, his sister Amanda (Mark) Knight and their children Tara, Destin, and Teagan, Uncle Les Kirk, Aunts Donna Gordon, Trish Cameron, and Joanne Sturley.

A Celebration of Life was held June 10 at the Hamiota Community Centre at 7:30 in the evening with a large crowd in attendance. Elsie Dickinson officiated.

Jim’s family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this devasting time of losing Jim. Our hearts are broken. The phone calls, text messages, cards, flowers, gift certificates and food brought to all our homes helped to ease our pain knowing so many of you cared. Many thanks to Warren and Kathy Brooks and their crew who set up the hall for the funeral. What a burden was lifted to have someone take charge of this. Thanks to Elsie Dickinson who graciously did the officiating of the service. To Campbell’s Funeral Home Staff who looked after us with such kindness and professionalism we give you a big thank you. For you Dwayne, this could not have been easy because Jim was a classmate and a friend. Lastly, thanks to the staff at Southend Lumber for all their support to Jim.

Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.

Love to all from,
