DANIEL ROBERT SHARPLES

December 27, 1956 - July 6, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Robert Sharples on July 6, 2024, at the Deer Lodge Centre.

Dan is survived by his soulmate Alison (Bergman), son Daniel Ryan Sharples (Destiny Wentz), sisters, Sharon (Hayden), Margaret Sharples, and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Muriel Sharples, sisters, Joan (VanSanten), Evelyn (Sigurdur), brother Edwin Sharples, and Alison’s parents, Bill and Ada Bergman.

Dan graduated from Westwood Collegiate in Winnipeg and then furthered his education by receiving a degree in Physical Education, and Certification in Education. To become fluent in French and receive his Certificate in French Language, he attended the Université de Saint-Boniface, Université du Quebec à Trois Rivières and Chicoutimi. Dan also earned a Human Resources Certificate - Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation at the University of Manitoba. Dan was an avid “sports guy” who loved his Blue Bombers and Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and spending time at Little Gordon Lake where he would play his guitar and sing his favourite songs, (mostly Gordon Lightfoot) on many occasions. Dan loved animals, especially his dog Maxie.

We would like to thank the health care workers at Deer Lodge Centre and Actionmarguerite for the kindness and care given to Dan over the past 18 months. Dan suffered with undiagnosed Dementia for several years - he is now at peace.

Cremation has taken place, and as per Dan’s wishes there will be no formal service. Donations can be made to the Dementia Care of the Manitoba Alzheimer Society.

  • Dan was the trainer in the Air Canada reservations call centre when I got a management position there in 1998. Having never worked in "res" before, Dan patiently spent a few weeks teaching me the finer points of the computer system which was foreign to me. He was thoughtful, considerate, and very patient, which I appreciated very much. We often discussed our love of sports, and in particular the Blue Bombers. So sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Rob Sawchuk (Co-Worker) on: Jul 21, 2024
