GORDON THOMAS KENDALL
With much sadness we announce the passing of Gordon Thomas Kendall, peacefully with family by his side, on July 20, 2024.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 47 years, Kathy, and children, Tim (Jessie), Trevor (Crystal), and Julie Cornwell (Patrick), as well as grandsons, Nate, Drew, and James, sisters, Peg and Sylvia, father-in-law Peter Bohonos, sisters-in-law, Joan (Reg), Donna (Laurry), brother-in-law Peter (Sherry) and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Gord was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Katherine Kendall (nee Lincoln), mother-in-law Pat Bohonos (nee Kolton), and brothers-in-law, Bob McKay and Rod Johnson.
Gord was born on September 7, 1952, and grew up in several places including Winnipeg, Norway House and Ottawa, then first worked as a radar operator at the DEW line in the Arctic. Summer vacations at the cottage at Ingolf were a constant. Gord met Kathy at Red River College and asked her on a date just in time before she graduated; they married in 1977. He worked as an electronic technician for Burroughs, Unisys, and Vansco, traveling as far as the Netherlands and Colombia. In his 40s he changed careers to teach high school electronics and electrical in Brandon and Steinbach. As a young man Gord enjoyed hobbies such as model trains, motorcycles, and computers; later on he puttered with guitars, amplifiers, pen-making and leather-working. In his later years he worked at Rona and Labels Unlimited, built the cottage at Belair, and also learned and taught tai chi.
Per his wishes, no funeral service is planned. The family will celebrate his life at a later date.
Donations in Gord's memory can be made to CancerCare. We are grateful for the care he received from the staff at Concordia and Health Sciences Centre.

I remember Gordon as an interesting friend at Norway House about 1962 or 1963. I remember him to be by bright, and more important, he would talk to almost anyone even if he didn't know them well. He and I were the only non-indigenous children in that community at that time. My last memory of him was him talking to me of his father's auto toboggan. It was a red snowmobile that had a small motor mounted at the rear of the track. It was steered by swivelling the front cab and skis around a pin that connected the track to the front cab. It was a very primitive snowmobile and its top speed was a crawl. But to us, it was wondrous and a step up from dog teams. His family moved abruptly as many did then and there. One day his family was there and then they disappeared. I always wondered where he went and thought of him now and then and had been thinking of him very recently. I read with sadness of his passing. It was interesting that although I had lost touch with him after he moved from Norway House, our paths had crossed many times and we ended up having similar interests. I am sad too that we never met up but am glad and not surprised at his many hobbies and interests. - Posted by: Jack Lee (friend) on: Jul 28, 2024

I first met Gordon in 2016 following family history research. I visited Canada from the UK travelling from Vancouver Island across the Provinces to Ontario. Stopping off in Winnipeg met Gordon his wife Kathy & family. I was welcomed by Gordon as if I had been part of the family for many years. Over the ensuing years we remained in touch via social media with catch-ups. He was a true gentleman, intelligent & devoted family man. Taken far too soon RIP Gordon you'll be sorely missed. Sincere condolences to Kathy & family.🙏 - Posted by: Maurice Kendall (Cousin) on: Jul 28, 2024

I am so sorry to hear of Gord’s passing. Pre pandemic Gord and I often taught tai chi on the same day or ended up in the same classes. He was an artist to be sure and a good friend. My condolences to Kathy and the family. Rest in peace Gord. Thanks for the kazoo. - Posted by: Lorraine Johnson (Friend) on: Jul 27, 2024

I remember Gord from tai chi. Always smiling and easy with jokes. Bringing his daughter to classes revealed the wonderful connection of sharing time with family. Many blessings to his family and extended family remembering all the good times and gifts that he shared during his life. 💐 - Posted by: Donna Johnson (Friend ) on: Jul 27, 2024
