CALVIN LONG

With love and gratitude in our hearts, we share that Calvin Cuthbert Long has left this world at Betel Personal Care Home on August 3, 2024.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Arlene; sons, Brant (Cynthia), Kevin (Kathi), and Garett (Jessie). Also left to cherish his memory are Kevin's children, Michael (Kaleigh and great-granddaughter, Emryn) and Christopher; Brant's family, Julian (Brooke and great-granddaughters, Chloe and Alexis) and Virginia (Garth and great-grandchildren, Aurora and Declan). He also leaves behind sister Wilma, brother Jim (Dorothy), sister Sherrill (Donald), brother Glen (Ruth), brother Garry (Lucille), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Calvin was predeceased by his father Gerald in 1964 and his mother Annie in 2001.

Calvin was born at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg on January 26, 1928, and lived as a life-long resident of Clandeboye, Manitoba. Love came to him a little later than most, but it finally arrived when a young teacher moved to Clandeboye and boarded at the home of Calvin's Mum. When they married in 1965, Calvin would only promise Arlene 25 years of marriage, but that turned into 59 wonderful years together. Calvin was truly a jack of many trades in his life, providing for his family as a farmer, mechanic, and carpenter. We were always amazed at his skills, including during his retirement when he followed his love of airplanes and built his own ultralight aircraft while fashioning many of the component parts himself. While not a huge player of games, he always enjoyed a game of Aggravation with friends and a game of Crib with family.

Thank you for being the best Husband and Dad you could be and raising us to be the best we could be. We will love you and miss you, until we meet again, but are comforted to know that you are now at peace.

The family would like to thank the staff at Selkirk Regional Health Centre and at the Betel Personal Care Home for the care they provided in the last weeks of Calvin's life. Your kindness, dignity and respect were appreciated.

A Service of Remembrance for Calvin will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at The Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, with interment to take place at the Clandeboye United Church cemetery later in the day.

In lieu of flowers, please live each day with kindness and consideration of others, or donate to a charity of your choice in Calvin's memory.

Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
