OLGA (OLLIE) WALKER

(nee FURDA)

October 18,1927 - July 26, 2024

                        “A beautiful life”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother (and Nana), Ollie, at the Park Manor Personal Care Home at the age of 96.

She is survived by her children, Ron (Carmen) and Barb (Don); grandchildren, Danny, Jared, Jayde (Derek) and Brandon. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Maria Furda; her brother Stanley; as well as Herb our father.

Mom was born and raised in Brooklands where she attended both Brooklands and Cecil Rhodes School. She enjoyed playing all sports and in Grade ten was on the Cecil Rhodes volleyball team that won the City championship! She also played softball for the St. Vital Tigerettes with her sister-in-law Dorothy and became the all star pitcher for the team.

Mom married Dad on June 12, 1948 and after years of saving they bought a home on Hazel Dell in East Kildonan. Mom remained in the family home after Dad‘s passing in 2007 until the spring of this year!

Throughout her working days she had various government jobs and remained with the Department of Veterans Affairs until her retirement in 1987. After retiring, Mom and Dad spent most of their time at their cabin at Victoria Beach. They also discovered their love to travel, embarking on adventures that spanned the globe. Mom especially loved cruises. Once they started cruising there was no turning back. Everyone who knew Mom knew she had a love of shopping and every port they landed in was her paradise. She would shop til she dropped if given the opportunity! After Dad passed away Mom continued to carry on her love of cruising every year with Barb and Jayde until 2019.

You will be deeply missed, Mom. Whether it be your unique fashion sense, your relaxed and easygoing demeanor, your love for surrounding yourself with beautiful things, or your signature hairstyle that earned compliments from everyone, - your radiant smile and your gift for listening will always be remembered and cherished.

The family cannot thank everyone enough, from all the girls at WRHA, to Sylvia who always made her hair look beautiful. Of course to all the caregivers and nurses at the Park Manor who helped Mom maintain her dignity. You are all outstanding and Mom was so lucky to have a great group of people caring for her.

As per Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. At a later date she will be interred with Dad at the Field of Honour at Brookside Cemetery.
