It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Buschau, affectionately known as Buddy, on August 7, 2024.
Born on May 2, 1937, in Plumas, Manitoba, to Gertrude and Carl Buschau, at the end of the Great Depression, Bob grew up with six siblings: Gerry, Margerie, Doris, Doug, Dianne, and Terri.
Bob pursued a career in education, becoming a dedicated teacher who inspired many young minds. His journey eventually led him to Leaf Rapids, where he not only taught but also became an integral part of the community. His contributions were many— initiated the development of the golf course; created a greenhouse to engage students (and other members of the community as it turned out), for which he won a teaching award; and served as president of minor hockey for a term. His commitment to improving the lives of those around him was evident in all he did.
A man of many talents and interests, Bob was a gifted pianist, an avid lapidary enthusiast, and a jewelry maker. He found joy in gardening, mushroom and berry picking, wood carving, soapstone carving, and creating stained glass art. His curiosity extended to physics as he delved into the mysteries of space and time, often reading works by Stephen Hawking amongst others, and engaging in intellectual debates on science, religion, and politics.
Bob was a man who touched many lives throughout his career and personal life. He was well-loved by his family, friends, and community, though he wasn't afraid to voice his opinions—sometimes through the pointed verses of his poetry—when something stirred his passion.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Lois, his children, Bobby Buschau (partner Denise Krebs), Marren (Nee Buschau) Pluchinski (husband Derek), and his grandchildren, Kahlann and Leah Buschau, and Michael, David, and Renee Pluchinski, and Brayden Krebs. His legacy of love, creativity, and community spirit will continue to live on through them and all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life is planned for September 27, 2024 in Winnipeg. The place and time is yet to be determined. Marren and Lois will post the time and place on Facebook or you can message them privately.
Bob will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be cherished. May he rest in peace.

Lois, Bobby, Marren and Families, I was very sorry to learn of Bob's passing. I did not know until very recently. My deepest sympathy to all of you. I am sorry that I did not get to attend the Celebration of Life for Bob. May many wonderful memories bring you comfort at this difficult time and be a treasure always. I first knew Bob as a dedicated high school teacher who truly enjoyed his profession. I will remember him as a kind and caring man with a good sense of humour. Hugs to you all. - Posted by: Bev MacDonald (Friend) on: Oct 02, 2024

Bob was a wonderful teacher and vice- principal during my time at the Leaf Rapids school. It was my first school and he was always friendly, encouraging, and always listened very carefully to what I had to say. He reassured me that I could handle whatever challenges came up. The most important advice he gave me was to always take your coffee break and develop your hobbies. Thanks Bob. - Posted by: Beth (Betty ) Hill. (I taught with Bob in Leaf Rapids) on: Sep 15, 2024
