THOMAS DOUGLAS ANTHONY WAITT

November 10, 1955 - August 4, 2024

With love and sadness, we announce the passing of Tom Waitt at the age of 68 due to complications from Lewy Body Dementia.

Tom is survived by his wife of 44 years, Brenda (nee Schmid); his four children, Katie (Jay), Morgan (Camilla), Carrie (Adam), Brooks (Lianna); and his nine grandchildren.

Tom was born in Winnipeg and worked in the financial industry for his lifetime career of over four decades, primarily at BMO Nesbitt Burns. He served on multiple boards within the community while supporting and investing in many local businesses.

Tom had many interests including music, automobiles and bringing together family and friends at his cabin on Lake of the Woods.

A special thank you to the staff at Heritage Lodge for their care and compassion.

As per Tom’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I am saddened to hear of his passing, and my condolences to Brenda and family. Tom was a good caring person, who worked hard to get where he was in the investment industry. His charm and witty nature made him a joy to work for. He always treated everyone as equals and did his best each day. He was proud of his children and always wanted the best for them. He will surely be missed. - Posted by: Yvonne Moroz (Past investment Assistant to Tom) on: Sep 26, 2024

  • Dear Brenda and family, We are thinking of you and your family today in your time of sorrow and are extremely sad for your loss. We remember Tom as a very gentle and loving person all the way back to our high school days. He was the only 12th grader with a car, (I'm sure many of us remember Betsy), he had a locker beside me so our paths crossed often, and he had the most wonderful girlfriend in you, Brenda. Being valedictorian at our graduation showed how much he was loved & respected by his piers. We remember after you were married and had Katie, you and Tom continued to entertain a large circle of friends and we appreciated being included. You may or may not remember a particular night when you had me and some co-workers from HSC over. It was a snowy, wickedly cold Winnipeg winter night and upon leaving, my '65 Chevy only made it around the corner. I decided to take a bus home but it was late and I could not make my connection. I hiked it back to your place and Tom did not hesitate to warm up the car and take me home. I never forgot his kindness. We haven't seen much of each other lately, being a country apart but I am happy that we kept in touch and we often think of you both. • Tom was an easy going fellow from school who liked cars like me. He had a Morris (I think that's what it was) and was always around helping each other out..boosting especially. Another name from my past life that has passed away. My condolences to his wife, children and family. - Posted by: Cory Athol Edward Guiboche (school class mate) on: Aug 17, 2024
