Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLIAN PERCHALUK
It is with sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. After a full life of 98 years, Lillian passed away on August 19, 2024 at Riverview Health Centre. Mom left us peacefully, after living with the effects of a stroke since 2016.
She will be lovingly remembered by son Ken (Brenda), daughter Theresa (Bill), grandchildren, Allison (Simon) and Eric (Stephanie) and great-grandchildren, Lola-Ré, Ozzie and Benjamin. She will also be remembered by her sister Katie as well as many nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Bill, her parents, Theodore and Sophia, sisters, Jean, Mary and Dorothy, and her brothers, George, Bill and Nick.
Mom was born in 1926 and raised in the areas surrounding Sundown, MB. In 1948 she and Dad were married and the following year moved to Morris, MB. During the 1950 flood they relocated to Winnipeg. Mom’s life was dedicated to raising her family, who meant everything to her. Her homemade perogies, cabbage rolls, salsa and baked goodies were enjoyed by family and friends. Mom loved gardening, then canning and freezing her home-grown vegetables which allowed her family to enjoy the fruits of her labours all year long.
Our mom was a very giving person. Much of her life was spent volunteering her time. She was a longtime member of St. John the Apostle Ukrainian Catholic Church, serving as President of the Ladies Auxiliary, assisting with many church teas, dinners and perogy fundraisers and was also a member Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League. When Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease Mom became his primary caregiver until her health no longer permitted. During Dad’s 11 year stay at Riverview Health Centre she volunteered and continued to do so after his passing for a total of just over 3700 hours.
Mom and Dad enjoyed their winter vacations together. After Dad’s retirement from Manitoba Hydro they travelled to Hawaii, Cuba, and Barbados with their favourite being Mazatlán, Mexico. Mom enjoyed reading pocketbooks, which her sister Katie made sure she always had an abundant supply. She loved sports and spent many hours glued to her TV watching baseball, football and hockey being her favourite. She so enjoyed watching the Winnipeg Jets.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care of Lillian.
A private family service to be held.
Donations in lieu of flowers to Riverview Health Centre - 3 West activities or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
