ELSIE MAGGIE GRANT

(nee KOZIEY)

June 24, 1932 - August 18, 2024

It is with love and sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Elsie Grant our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend, at River East Personal Care Home on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the age of 92.

Elsie will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children, Daniel (Katherine), Stephen, Maggie (Jim), Eileen (Jay); grandchildren Erica (Joey), Ian (Lea), Deanna, Matthew, Bryn (Erik), Colin; great-grandchildren Theo, Samuel, Willow and Arlo; sister Mary in Texas; brother Peter (Phyllis) of Winnipeg; brother-in-law Neal Grant in Ontario; and sister-in-law Peggy Doherty in Ireland along with many friends.

Elsie was predeceased by her parents Annie and Steve Koziey, brothers Michael and Paul Koziey, and by her beloved husband of 67 years, Philip.

Elsie was born in Winnipeg and was the second oldest of five children. She was raised in the Lord Roberts area and attended Lord Roberts School and St. Mary’s Academy. Elsie was an exemplary student. She did not finish her high school education but rather went to work to assist with family responsibilities. She made many good friends at work during that time.

Elsie met Philip through the Catholic Youth Organization in the early 1950’s. They were married on May 8, 1954. Four children soon followed, and their lives became focused on providing and maintaining a good home and raising their family.

As a proud homemaker Elsie maintained a busy household with four kids, making and planning healthy meals on a tight budget, and keeping a regular, organized routine for the family. She loved to bake and excelled at it. She was an expert at pickling, canning, preserving, freezing and making jams, jellies and most of all, perogies.

After raising her children Elsie returned to school and succeeded in getting her GED.

In her retirement years Elsie moved to a new home in the St. Vital area with Philip. Elsie and Philip became members at the newly developing Parish of St. Timothy. Elsie’s life focused on supporting the ministries of her new church home. She enjoyed being grandma to her grandchildren. She enjoyed the company of the circle of friends that she had met over the years. But most of all she enjoyed being with Philip. They were a consummate team, and they liked it that way.

Elsie lived a full, long life. Now Mom is pain free and at peace, and re-united once again with her husband and love, Philip.

Three things will last forever - Faith, Hope and Love And the greatest of these is LOVE.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Saunders and the entire Care Team on Serenity Cove at River East Personal Care Home for the care and kindness shown to Elsie during her time there.

A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of St. Timothy, 135 John Forsyth Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Elsie.
