KENNETH HAROLD SIMPKINS

It is with gratitude for all that he shared with us that the family of Kenneth Harold Simpkins announce the passing of their brother, uncle, and cousin on August 27, 2024. Ken’s life was challenging in many ways, but through his great faith in God and his commitment to do his utmost to walk in Jesus’s footsteps, he made his way, and we were privileged to walk with him.
Ken was born April 14, 1949, in Winnipeg to father, Harold Simpkins and mother, Lillian Simpkins (nee Waytiuk). He was predeceased by his mother and father in 2008; his brother Christopher in 2013; and his brother-in-law James Brennan in 2014. He is survived by sisters, Nancy Brennan and Lucille Martin (Bert); by nephews, Michael and David Simpkins, Jason Brennan, and niece, Jennifer Brennan; and their families; and other cousins in the Simpkins and Waytiuk families.
In his early adult life, Ken struggled with schizophrenia and addictions. Over time with the help of doctors, social workers, and supportive family and friends, Ken learned to manage both. For Ken, placing Christ at the centre of his life gave him strength and resilience. A life that could have gone less well, instead, became one of joy and optimism, of good humour and love.
Ken brought a smile to those who got to know him, and his love was radiated back in the kindness of many friends over the years who always had a bit of time to take him for a burger or lend him an ear or a few dollars here and there.
The family extends our gratitude to all the friends and family who shared in his journey. We also wish to thank the caring folks at Heritage Lodge who helped make his final months and especially final days very comfortable. A final and heartfelt thanks to Pastor Bruce Martin and the Thursday night Men’s Group at Calvary Temple. Ken was always made to feel very welcome and found a home in Jesus in their warmth and fellowship.
Ken’s funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 7, in Buntain Chapel at Calvary Temple with Pastor Bruce Martin presiding.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I met Ken 51 years ago today. I am proud to say that Ken was my best friend! Best friends come by once in a lifetime. Ken was always there for me. He would have excellent advice and was never judgmental. I think of Ken all the time. I miss my best friend. - Posted by: D'Arcy Surrette (Best friend) on: Aug 27, 2025

  • Ken was a kind thoughtful, caring man whose first thought was always of others. No matter how little he had he always had enough to share. I remember once when he was gifted a turkey at Christmas. His first thought was to donate it to Siloam Mission. I never saw him smile bigger than when he handed that turkey over to the lady at the mission. Ken found comfort in his strong faith and was always happy to pray for and with you. Your home in heaven is a mansion now Kenny. Love you Brother. You will be missed. 🙏🏻 - Posted by: Scott Montgomery (Cousin) on: Sep 05, 2024

  • Sad to hear of Kenny's passing, He was known to stop by for a visit with his friend Scott and later on his friend Patrick. He was always so kind and patient, he would never turn down a cup of coffee while he waited for his friends. Rest in peace Kenny. - Posted by: Winnipeg Prosthetic & Orthotic (friend) on: Sep 04, 2024
