Peacefully on August 24, 2024, after a lengthy illness, John Harold (Harry) Meneer passed away at Deer Lodge Centre, with his wife Norma at his side.
Harry was born March 4, 1935 in Carberry, Manitoba, moving to Winnipeg in 1948 where he lived all his life.
While still in high school, Harry began working for CNR, where he proudly worked for 42 years, retiring as a Labour Relations Officer in 1991.
Harry married Norma Aitken on September 28, 1963. Besides his wife, he is survived by their three sons, John (Fran), Dave (Jen) and Paul as well as three grandsons, Josh, Daniel and Matthew. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Trupp (Larry) and brother Wayne (Sonya); Norma’s siblings, Bob (Connie), Doug (Dale), Debra (Don) Smyth and Shirley, (widow of Frank Allan Aitken). Harry was predeceased by his parents, John and Lily Meneer and his brother Ken.
As a long-term resident of Norwood, Harry had been very involved in the community. He was well known for the active role he played for many years in the operation of the Norwood Community Club.
Harry has been a cottage owner at Falcon Lake for over 65 years and was actively involved with the Whiteshell Cottagers Association since 1966 when he first became a Director. He was President from 1973 to 1974 and among other roles was a member of the Arbitration Board for 21 years, serving 10 years as Chairman. He became an Honorary Life Member in 2012.
Harry and Norma became original residents of Vic Wyatt House on St. Anne’s Road in 2000. Over the years he thoroughly enjoyed his involvement and association with the wonderful community established there.
At Harry’s request, a family gathering of remembrance is being held.

My deepest condolences to Norma & family, I started working at the Falcon Lake golf course in 1993 and was fortunate enough to meet Harry & Norma that first year. I always enjoyed playing golf with Harry, Don Curtis and Chub Birdsell which usually cost me a bunch of nickels in a game the called bingo, bango, bongo!! Harry was one of the first guys I played with that golfed cross handed and he was a great chipper, I'll sometimes teach his technique to people who struggle with chipping. As a single guy in a new small town I always enjoyed being welcomed over for a home cooked meal, thanks Norma. The thing I remember most of Harry was his quick wit and friendly demeanor... unless his dinner was late at the couples night golf!! Dear Norma, John, Paul and David and your families, We were sorry to learn of Harry's passing. I know he spent a very long time in the hospital. I hope you are going to be alright. I am sure Harry will be deeply missed. I didn't see Harry much over the years but he always made me laugh with his sense of humour.
