ELLEN DOROTHY OKOLITA

(nee STIMPSON)

August 17, 1925 - August 29, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, Ellen Okolita (nee Stimpson), who departed this life on August 29, 2024, at the remarkable age of 99.

Born on August 17, 1925, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ellen was a devoted mother and a loving wife to her late husband William "Bill" Okolita and son James. She leaves behind her son Bill Jr., three grandchildren - Kristine, Michael (Cara), and Kelly, plus great-granddaughter Emerie Ellen, and numerous nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward.

Ellen was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary, her loving husband Bill, her son James, and her brothers and sisters.

Ellen was a beacon of kindness and generosity, always prioritizing the needs of others. Her love and compassion touched everyone she met, and she will be fondly remembered for her radiant smile and warm spirit.

A service will be held Monday, September 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba in Ellen's memory.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • If this is the Mrs. Okolita who sold vegetables from her market garden in St. Vital, I remember her fondly. Hers was the best corn on the cob around, especially if cooked to her specifications: "Bring the water to a boil, put in the corn, return to the boil, 3 minutes!" I have passed on "Mrs. Okolita's method" to many over the years. Several years ago, for old time sake, driving down St. Anne's Road, I was pleased to see Okolita Park. She was a legend and not forgotten all these many years. - Posted by: Beverley Moore (past Winnipeg resident) on: Sep 08, 2024

  • Aunt Ellen had a fantastic sense of humour and made every effort to keep things happy even in hard times. She was a great cook and fantastic Aunt. I loved her for her kindness, great memories she passed along as well as her teaching me how to make some of her special dishes when I had the honour of visiting her as a child, a teenager and later in life also. She made everyone fell at home and part of her life. I will for sure miss her and her smiles. - Posted by: Patricia Guymer (Niece) on: Sep 08, 2024
