DEANNA SHAWNEEN ANDERSON

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Deanna Shawneen "Shawn" Hudman Anderson. On August 27, 2024, at the age of 84 years after a short battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully in her sleep with her two daughters by her side.

Her daughters wish to send a special thank you to the staff on the 3rd floor, East Wing of the Riverview Health Center, in Winnipeg, Manitoba for their care and compassion, and accommodation in making mom's final days comfortable.

In 1964, Shawn relocated from Idaho to Berkeley, California and worked at Cutter Laboratories while her husband, Bruce, pursued his studies. Six years later, in 1970, the family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where Bruce took on a teaching role at the University of Manitoba.

Shawn had a career as Administrative Assistant for the School of Art at the University of Manitoba where she worked until her retirement. She worked amidst a vibrant community of artists who valued her exceptional organizational skills, unwavering commitment, and approachable nature. Shawn's ability to improve the school experience for students, alleviate concerns for parents who were sometimes distant, and organize her artist colleagues was deeply appreciated. She often expressed how much happiness and a sense of belonging her role provided her, especially after relocating so far from her original home. She especially enjoyed her annual field trips to Chicago and Minneapolis.

Shawn will be lovingly remembered by her children, Heather (Phil Cleobury) Anderson, and Jenny (Jim) Reed; grandsons, Aidan and Mitchell Reed; brother, Gary (Vanessa) Hudman; as well as numerous relatives and friends including neighbours, coworkers, and students who were all a part of her extended "adopted" family in Canada where she lived for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Glenn Bruce Anderson; brothers, Wesley, Benson and Ray Hudman; sisters, Colleen Saxton, Bonnie Chumley, Marilyn Arave, Patricia Beasley, and Karen Carlson; and her parents, Jerome and Bernice Hudman.

A graveside service will be held on September 14, 2024 at the Wilford Cemetery in Wilford, Idaho at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
