Walter was my high school metal shop teacher at Sisler High School in Winnipeg in the early 70's. He was a wonderful man who I admired a lot. I still have a number of "creations" that were made in his classes at Sisler, including a cast "Scottie dog" that was poured in class. Rest easy Mr Opalko. - Posted by: Lynn Latozke (friend/student) on: Sep 15, 2024

We wanted to have our driveway upgraded. Joan, while driving in our area, saw Walter relaying driveway bricks so stopped and introduced herself and quizzed him on his experience and an estimate to redo our driveway. He dropped by our house and agreed to fix our driveway. His knowledge and commitment to excellent work were immediately evident. He stayed for supper and our love for him had begun. After many jobs around our house with many meals and visits in between we grew very fond of each other. My children tested him with trickery as he tried to work but he loved it. We visited him in Kelowna the year following his move from Winnipeg. It was great to see him. He’s always been in our thoughts especially during family gatherings. We always admired his commitment to his faith. Rest In Peace Walter. - Posted by: Max & Joan Churley (Friends and Admirers ) on: Sep 14, 2024
