Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAROLD KEMP (BUD) IRVING
It is with deep sorrow and abiding love that the family of “Bud Irving” announce his passing on the late night of September 7, 2024, at the Seven Oaks Hospital.
Bud was a warm and loving man who lived life to the fullest extent possible. He was known for his smile and his ability to connect with people, helping them when life’s difficulties arose.
Bud was born in Winnipeg to Harold Robert Irving and Daisy Marguerite Irving on the second of May 1926 at the Victoria Hospital. He graduated from Kelvin High School in 1943, and the University of Manitoba with a B.A. degree in 1947 and an L.L.B in 1951.
He was predeceased by his parents and by his younger brother Jack, and his first wife Val Sherman. He leaves to cherish his memory many nieces and nephews from this marriage as well as a much loved sister-in-law Mary Ann Sherman; as well Linda Gaer (niece), Stephan (nephew), and Bruce King husband to Mary Ann.
On the Irving side he had much love for Doug (Adele) his nephew, and his two great-nephews David (Cheryl) and Lexi, Andrew (Tara) Ciara and Declan – and for his sister-in-law Marjorie Rankin.
Peggy (Bud’s wife) and Bud were close friends from the age of 9 years through life; and at the age of 85 years, married into a beautiful life together. And one more time, Bud loved his new family, Bill and Nancy, grandkids Jenny and John and Tristan and Theresa, Laura and great-granddaughter Kali.
Keeping Bud guided through this well-lived, full and cherished life was “his Susan” – Susan Watt, a person who was as dear to him as a much loved daughter and was the glue that held everything together. Bud was also grateful for Dr. Schroeder, a beloved friend that kept him well.
Bud was a Senior Member of a prominent Law Firm D’Arcy & Deacon, Master Mason and a member of the Valley of Scottish Rite. Bud was Past President Manitoba Bar Association and a member of the Law Society Council to the Shriners Hospital of Canada. Bud worked 45 years for the Shriners, without pay.
Bud played professional football with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for 5 years, and after refereed for 10 years while practicing law. He was Past President of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Many words could be expressed about Bud. He is being deeply missed. He was unquestionably the epitome of a just, true and loving man.
A Memorial Service for Bud will take place on September 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A livestream of the service can be viewed using the following the following web address: https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/97635

The Grey Owl Golf Tournament will be holding its 63rd annual golf tournament in June of 2025. The tournament has a long-standing history of bringing together golfers of all levels for competition, and camaraderie over the years. Bud Irving was not only a long-time participant of the tournament he was also a long-serving director of the event. It was due to the commitment of Bud, and others, that has made the tournament flourish through the years and continue to be a destination event on the Manitoba golf schedule. Bud was given what is now known as the Robert J. Picken Honour Award in 1992 for his continued dedication to the tournament. We, the Grey Owl Directors, would like to take this opportunity to thank Bud for his time on the Committee and his devotion to the tournament. We also want to extend our sincerest condolences and sympathy to the Irving family. - Posted by: The Grey Owl Golf Tournament (Directors) on: Nov 05, 2024

I’ve known Uncle Bud for my entire 58 years on this planet. Photos of Christmas’s spent at he and Aunt Val’s home on Thatcher Drive still are as vivid as they were five decades ago…The smell of his pipe and the ceremony of lighting it still fascinating today. Uncle Bud was wise, careful with his words, very intelligent, and witty with a quick smile and twinkle in his eye when he was giving you the gears over something. He lived a wonderful life and gave much of his time, knowledge, and effort to several charities. He taught me to be patient, gracious, and above all else, dignified in the face of adversity. While he was devastated with the loss of Val, he was renewed when he and Peg reconnected and you’ve no doubt been the wind in his sails late into life Peg…thank you for that. A great man has passed. - Posted by: Steve and Abbey Cara (Great Nephew) on: Sep 17, 2024

My sincerest condolences Peggy and families on Bud’s passing. I hold great memories of my visits with you and Bud when I would stop by to discuss and take care of electrical problems when they came up. The visit always had great conversation and would sometimes turn into Bud and I sipping a whiskey and chatting about the Blue Bombers, and anything else that might come up. I cherish the Blue Bomber book that Bud gave me, which I was lucky to have him sign. - Posted by: Bob Fleming (Friend) on: Sep 17, 2024

During my time of employment at D'Arcy and Deacon, I found Mr. Irving to be a very strong lawyer, knew what he wanted and how to get it. I learned a lot during my time there an did corporate work as a paralegal, with some of his files. My condolences to his family and friends. He will be remembered. - Posted by: Diane Wilson (formerly Benedictson) (Previous employee who did corporate work for Mr. Irving) on: Sep 14, 2024

How fortunate I was back in June 1976 to join Mr. Irving's law firm and to be his articling student. I was new to Winnipeg from Montreal. Bud hired me, welcomed me, gave me my start, mentored me, generously included me in his thriving practice, and was our leader. His pride in Winnipeg was infectious. My wife and I fondly recall his dancing moves and good cheer at the "summer hummers". We left Winnipeg in 1980 for Calgary to pursue legal careers. We often reflected how important Bud was to our success, a true cornerstone, we were so blessed to have him part of our lives. Thank you Sir. May you Rest in Peace. Our Thoughts and Prayers are with your family and friends. Respectfully, John Cordeau KC and The Honourable Carolyn Phillips. - Posted by: John Francis Cordeau (Former Student and colleague) on: Sep 14, 2024

My sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Bud Irving. Mr. Irving was a longtime friend of my late father. I met him on several occasions and he was welcoming and always interested in what was going on in my life. While he and my father were friends on a personal level, Mr. Irving also was my father's lawyer. When my father was terminally ill and bedridden at my home Mr. Irving came to my home to visit and discuss legal matters on several occasions. He could have easily done it by phone and sent his assistant to have papers signed but he personally made the trips in order to see my father which I know was a huge effort for Mr. Irving. He was a wonderful, caring man and may he rest in peace. - Posted by: Jane Hill (Friend) on: Sep 14, 2024
