ALAN BABIUK

With profound shock and devastation our world lost an incredible man. Alan William Babiuk (Al), aged 59, passed away accidently on September 7, 2024, near his “new” hometown of Killarney, MB.

Al leaves his wife Cindy (nee Hamaberg), their “fur baby” (and Al’s best canine buddy Pedro). He also leaves his brother Randy, Cindy's siblings and their families, cousins and countless friends and colleagues throughout Canada and the USA.

Al left a remarkable impression with family, friends, colleagues, community and anyone he ever met even just once. He gave 110% to everyone and everything but was humble and wanted no recognition for anything. Outside of his incredibly sharp business mind he had a GREAT passion for music (playing guitar himself) since teenage years in a band with buddies from Teulon, MB. Sports (playing soccer and hockey) and fitness, walking miles with Pedro daily and working out every day.

He was a voracious reader of EVERYTHING and retained it ALL. Al never forgot a name or person he crossed paths with.

He recently became interested in classic cars with friends from Killarney and we had started participating in shows and parades.

His love and interest in farming never left him and he immersed himself in our Killarney farming community making great farm friends and even tagged along combining.

Most of all Al was a philanthropist and wanted to give, help, organize, and fundraise and help in anyway possible (even pulling weeds in flower beds around our town where needed).

I will never be able to cover this bigger than life man so I will stop here.

Rest Peacefully My Love

You have earned your wings.

Respecting Al’s wishes there will be no formal service.

Donations in memory of Alan may be made to the event he was passionately planning, the Al Babiuk Memorial Fundraising event, which will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Killarney Fire Hall. There will be a tribute to Alan at 5:00 p.m. Proceeds from this event will go to STARS, and for the purchase of a Transport Ventilator for the Tri Lake Health Centre. Cheques may be made payable to the Killarney Foundation with STARS in the memo: Box 1180, Killarney, Manitoba R0K 1G0, or online at www.killarneyfoundation.ca.

At this time, Cindy would like to thank EVERYONE for their overwhelming outpouring of love and support. There really are no words to express my gratitude. I love you and thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Please remember Al in life and not in death and when you hear a good band think of him.

LIVE A GOOD LIFE

And in the end its not the years in a life.

It’s the life in the years.

Condolences & Memories (17 entries)

  • Cindy, my sincere condolences to you & your families, and gorgeous Pedro. Hadn't seen you guys for years and thanks to dear Howie for the reconnection with you and Al, to which I'm so grateful. Al was definitely a "salt of the earth" human being that touched the lives of so many, always present in our conversations, and a life well lived. It's been a month and still doesn't seem real. Gone way too soon. I know he will be watching over you. Thinking of you every day!! Hugs my friend!! - Posted by: Maureen Mayhew (Friend) on: Oct 07, 2024

  • I’m so sorry to hear of this devastating news Cindy. You both were total soulmates which is rare in our short journey here on earth. I know you will see each other again and the great memories may carry you through this difficult time. Allan was a great man full of light and always had a smile that was contagious. - Posted by: Pam and Rob Hill (Colleague/friend ) on: Sep 18, 2024

  • My deepest condolences to Cindy, Randy, Pedro, all his family and friends. As an older cousin I remember the times I used to read Hardy Boy books to Alan, progressing to the times when Alan taught ME how to kick a football and catch a fly ball. Memories of climbing trees, playing in the haystacks and just visiting Alan and his family in Teulon are flooding my thoughts these day. My fondest wish is that Alan finds his Mom and Dad so they can join my Mom and Dad having a BBQ hamburger made on my Dads old briquette grill. And now that Alan is of age, perhaps having a beer. Hugs to all - Posted by: Allison Wilson (Cousin) on: Sep 16, 2024

  • Cindy- I only met your wonderful Al in person once but we had a good relationship via phone, email and zoom. I have been quite taken by how this news has affected me. That can only meet that Al came to mean a lot to me over those Covid years. I guess you really CAN build relationships that way, IF the other person is very special. Clearly Al was. I have read all the things that have been written so far and they all ring true for me. I always got the sense that Al was "all in" in any conversation we had. He was listening hard and trying to be as helpful as possible. He also always did what he said he was going to do. Active Listening combined with solid Integrity... rare qualities methinks Thanks for sharing Al with us and me. Among other things, I will miss our Jets Leafs banter and our plans to go to a game together. Lotsa love. Greig - Posted by: greig clark (on board of Sexton with Al) on: Sep 14, 2024

  • Al was a genuine man with a heart of gold. I had the pleasure of catching up with Al & Cindy at friends in Teulon this July. Cindy, my heart aches for you. May you find comfort and strength with those who surround you. My condolences to you and the family. A man of honor & integrity gone too soon. Rest easy Al. Heaven has gained another set of wings. - Posted by: Louise Shupenia (Lavallee) (School Friend) on: Sep 14, 2024

  • Cin. We can't comprehend your loss into adequate words, but know we are here for you. Al was the kindest a human could ever be. May his kind, generous and gentile spirit go on until we meet again. Way too soon. He was the very very best of us. - Posted by: Doug & Tracy Barker (Friends) on: Sep 14, 2024

  • Taken way to soon like so many other good and useful people. My deepest sympathy. - Posted by: Noreeen Stone (former teacher) on: Sep 14, 2024

  • It is with extreme profound sadness that I learned of Al’s passing. There are no words to express the sadness of a man I grew up with in our small town. He was kind and gentle to anyone who knew him. I hadn’t see Al for many years up until last summer when I ran into him at a bomber game. It was so nice to reconnect and chat for a few minutes. Recently I talked with him at a funeral of a mutual friend so this news has been hard to absorb. I extend my families sincere sympathy to you Cindy and to Randy. Life can be cruel to those that are kind and gentle. Thinking of all of you at this time. He was a very kind person and hold his memories close to your heart ♥️ - Posted by: Michelle Hazelton(Brocker) (Neighbour in Teulon) on: Sep 14, 2024

  • My condolences to Cindy and family plus friends. - Posted by: Valerie Alderson (Past colleague ) on: Sep 14, 2024
