ANITA BEATON

Anita Beaton was born in Edmonton, Alberta on July 25, 1942 to Erna and Ferdinand Stiem. In 1966 she met William (Willie) Beaton at Klondike Days in Edmonton, they married in 1967 and moved to Winnipeg in 1970. Mom and dad instantly became Blue Bombers fans, owning season tickets for over 20 years, and rarely missed a game on radio or television.

As a proud businesswoman, her small flower shop Forget-Me-Not Florists became a pillar in the community for over 25 years. She loved her flowers and the joy her floral designs, staging and planning brought to her loyal clientele.

Over the years she had many passions and hobbies that teetered on obsession - including knitting and needle point, daily scratch tickets, and her cherished colouring books. To relax, she delighted in making things for other people. She was constantly knitting - blankets, sweaters, scarves - there always had to be a gift underway for her family and closest friends. Mom reveled in being the consummate hostess and absolutely loved cooking and sharing for crowds of mom and dad’s closest friends on New Year’s Day Brunch, for Grey Cup, or those seasonal dinner gatherings.

She collected and adorned their home with ceramics and soapstone, and each summer she surrounded the house with vibrant flower beds and overflowing planter pots.

Mom had a deep love for animals, having owned many dogs and cats through her lifetime. She was endlessly amused - and in awe - of their wee personalities and charms. In her later years she really enjoyed coloring books, being most overjoyed by those containing cats – especially those pages having Kittys even vaguely resembling her precious Madison.

Anita is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 57 years Willie; her daughter Heather (Karl), sons Donald (Angela) and Ewan (Danielle), and four beloved grandchildren, Brittany, Kyle, Evelyn and Loic.

Mom we will miss your chuckles, your eye rolling, your very particular ways of doing things, all your baking - and flapper pies, your endless love for your children and grandchildren, and your weekly updates. Love you mom, rest in peace.

There will be a small private interment by the Family. Any memorial donations may be made in Anita’s name to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
