KATHERINE EMES
Kay lived a remarkable 97 years, spending her final years under the compassionate care of the staff at Middlechurch Home. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful staff, especially nurses, Chad, Nancy, Ravneet for their kindness and care.
Kay was blessed with five beautiful children - four boys and one girl - who kept her busy as she balanced motherhood, a full-time job, and tending to the yard work and garden on the family farm. She and her husband, Bob, predeceased her in 2007, resided at their farmhouse in West St. Paul, Manitoba. She was also predeceased by her son Buddy.
Kay is survived by her children, (Buddy) Donna, along with their children, Jeff and Rob (Olivia, Wyatt), Jimmy and Linda, their children, Tammy and Shannon and family, Adam (Jessica, Alex) Brooke, Dave (Meaghan) Douglas and Britta, along with their children, (Serina, Christopher) William, along with his children, (Penny, Ronnie) Valerie -David, Tara (Lexi, Layla) Marnie, Lino (Bella/Ally, Austin, Noah), and her special dog Blackie, all mourn Kay’s passing.
Kay’s career was dedicated to working at the MB Home for Girls, where she made a lasting impact through her work with youth. She cherished the friendships she formed during her years there, especially her close bond with Pat. Even after retirement, she and the staff would gather for monthly lunch dates, maintaining their special connections.
Kay also had a deep love for travel, especially her trips to the USA with her sister, Joyce - a tradition they maintained for many years.
In retirement, she enjoyed spending time in the garden on the farm and welcomed visits from her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought great joy to her life. Kay loved the farm and all the horses. She found joy in watching her boys haul water and fill the granaries and haystacks, and she cherished the moments spent with her family on the farm.
Kay had many fond memories growing up with all her siblings on Salter Street. She told stories of all her adventures with Edward, Clarence, Frankie and Joyce. All the DIRR family and cousins and extended family also mourn Kay’s passing. She was loved by many.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Penny’s All Breed Animal Rescue in her memory.

I remember hearing stories from Dad (Frankie) about all the times he would go with Aunty Kay and Joyce to the casino. He used to laugh and say "that Kay has horseshoes you know where". Rest easy now and give Dad a big hug for me. - Posted by: Debbie Melnychuk (Niece) on: Oct 19, 2024
