MURIEL MARGARET JAMIESON

(nee SHAW)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Muriel Margaret Jamieson, on October 3rd, 2024, at Grace Hospital ICU. Muriel will be deeply missed by a wide circle of dear friends across Canada, the United States and in Scotland. Muriel was predeceased by her father, John Shaw, her husband, James (Jim) Jamieson, and her final love, Jim Smith.

Muriel will be lovingly remembered for her generous spirit, sharp wit, deep knowledge of English, and her passion for teaching. After many years of dedicated service in the Winnipeg School Division, she went on to share her expertise and classroom experience with Education students at both the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba, helping to shape a new generation of English Language Arts teachers. Muriel's love of travel took her around the world, and after her "retirement" from education, she became a Travel Consultant with Expedia. In this role, just as in her teaching, her skill and care in helping others were unmatched.

Thank you to the nurses and doctors of the ICU at Grace Hospital for their compassionate care during Muriel’s final moments.

A celebration of Muriel’s life will be held on October 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd in Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, a gift in Muriel’s memory can be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society, the Salvation Army, or the Biochemistry Scholarship created in Muriel’s late husband’s name, James Chilles Jamieson, at the University of Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Such a great teacher and lovely person. Rest in peace Muriel. - Posted by: Peter Robbie (Former Kelvin HS student) on: Nov 14, 2024

  • An amazing teacher! She fostered within me a deep love of Shakespeare. More than thirty years later, my classmates and I still recite Scottish ballads because of her. Condolences to her loved ones. - Posted by: Katherine Abra (Former student at Kelvin HS) on: Nov 05, 2024

  • Mrs. Jamieson was my favourite teacher in high school. She saw you as a person not just a teenager. I will never forget her voice calling out to me at the bottom of Brewster Mountain at Sunshine Ski Resort "is that Cathie Appler I hear?" She had heard me laughing with my friends and recognized my voice. She really did know who I was, not just a student. I am pleased to see how successful she was in her life. She deserved it. - Posted by: Catherine Appler (former student at Kelvin High School) on: Oct 28, 2024

  • Mrs Jamieson was one of those teachers you never forget, for good reasons. Lots of great memories! English was not my favourite subject, but her teaching style definitely helped me develop a few writing skills. - Posted by: Walter Turchyn (former Kelvin student) on: Oct 21, 2024

  • She was a wonderful teacher and person. - Posted by: Elaine Hutton (Former student) on: Oct 19, 2024

  • An incredible teacher and a kind and loving person. RIP Mrs J. - Posted by: Trish Bergal (Former Kelvin High School student) on: Oct 19, 2024
