Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • We were security for the 1976 Olympics (not 1996), Canada did not want another Munich (1972) to happen in Montreal or Kingston. - Posted by: Michael Nickerson (Comrade) on: Dec 06, 2024

  • Rudy and I served together in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. We served with a number of several other ‘little black devils’ as part of the military security force fur the 1996 Olympics. Our group of Winnipeg Rifles were sent to Petawawa, Ontario to train with and service with the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment. The 3rd Battalion RCR was then deployed to Kingston, Ontario to secure the Olympic Village in Kingston, Ontario (Queens University Dorms). Rudy and I enjoyed this tour of duty. - Posted by: Michael (Nickerson) on: Dec 01, 2024

  • Rudy was a comrade and a friend. I can still see him arriving at my home a number of times riding his brother’s BMW motorcycle. I lost contact with Rudy and I would on occasion do an internet search. I was hoping to connect with Rudy again in this life. Yesterday I was notified at a military function that Rudy had passed. My condolences to his family and friends. Rudy was a character and is missed - Posted by: Michael Nickerson (Military comrade) on: Nov 10, 2024

  • A Toast to Rudy: A Life Celebrated In the heart of Winnipeg, where the rivers wind, Lived a gentle giant, with a spirit so kind. Rudolf Reisel, a name we hold dear. Born on August 20th, his laughter sincere. With Lothar and Alma, his parents so wise, they nurtured his heart beneath wide-open skies. In a home filled with warmth, where love brightly shone, they taught him the values of kindness and home. Growing up with four brothers, a rambunctious crew, Peter, Dave, Ernie, and Werner, all true. Through laughter and mischief, they shared every day, creating a bond that would never decay. From climbing tall trees to the games in the sun, they forged a connection, a life full of fun. In the warmth of their brotherhood, they learned to be strong, together they faced life, where each would belong. Rudy, tall and gentle, with a heart full of grace, joined the Winnipeg Royal Rifles, a proud embrace. Though his time there was brief, it shaped who he’d be, a man of great courage, with a spirit so free. Then came the trains, with their rhythmic delight, at Canadian Pacific, he worked day and night. From December of seventy-seven, he found his true call, in the whistle of engines, he cherished it all. But life brought him gifts beyond work’s embrace, he became a father, a role he’d embrace. Richard, so clever, with dreams that ignite, Natasha, a beacon, with a heart full of light, and Jonathan, strong, with laughter so true, in their smiles and their stories, his love only grew. Yet life also brought heartache, a sorrowful turn, for Yvonne, his true love, the fire in his heart, left this world too soon, and with her, he yearned, a bond so profound, now shattered apart. Though heartbroken he wandered, through shadows and pain, he carried her memory like a soft summer rain. In the laughter of children, in moments they’d share, he felt her presence, still vibrant and rare. His friends gathered ’round him, a circle so wide, in laughter and joy, they stood side by side. Through barbecues, stories, and moments so sweet, in the fabric of friendship, their lives were complete. So now let us gather, with love in the air, to honor dear Rudy, our brother so rare. With a toast filled with laughter and memories to share, let’s raise up our glasses, showing how much we care. “Here’s to Rudy!” we cheer, with hearts open wide, in the warmth of his spirit, we’ll always abide. With a cold beer in hand, let’s celebrate right, in the glow of his memory, we’ll shine ever bright. We’ll remember the moments, the smiles, and the cheer, the lessons he taught us, forever held dear. In the stories we tell, in the love that we give, Rudy lives on in our hearts, as long as we live. So here’s to our brother, our father, our friend, with love that surrounds us, may it never end. In the echoes of laughter, in the memories we keep, Rudy’s spirit will flourish, in our hearts, it runs deep. As we raise our glasses, let the toasts fill the air, to Rudy, our gentle giant, with love we declare. Though he’s journeyed beyond, his legacy stays, in the hearts of his loved ones, forever he plays. - Posted by: Barney (Friend ) on: Nov 02, 2024
