EUGENE MARTIN PASKEWITZ

September 29, 1952 - October 31, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Martin Paskewitz at the age of 72. He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Geraldine; sister Daria McLean; brother Michael; three brothers-in-law; and partner Dianna Schleier. He will be missed by his five sisters and three brothers, Rita Hildahl (Wayne), Greg (Jill), Paul (Terri), Monica Peristerakis, Theresa Heffler, Celia Elder (John), Philip, Barb McGillis (Don); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, cousins and friends.

Martin grew up spending summers at the family cottage at Winnipeg Beach, sailing and horseback riding, as well as going on annual hunting trips with his family. As a young man, Martin's love of horses influenced his becoming a farrier. Being a thrill seeker, his adventures included skiing, windsurfing, sky diving, hang gliding and travelling on his Harley Davidson. Always a generous host and tons of fun, Martin held legendary family gatherings at his lakefront cottage in Whytewold. He had a quick wit and enjoyed the company of his extended family and friends.

For many years, Martin worked with his Dad selling farm equipment throughout Canada, the US and Europe. He later owned 'Wine Line and Beer Gear' on Academy Rd. In more recent years he worked at Ames Tile & Stone while living on an acreage with his late partner, caring for rescue animals.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

In memory of Martin, please consider a donation to an animal rescue.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • In Memory of Martin Paskewitz - A Reflection. With a heavy heart, I reflect on Martin Paskewitz's passing. Just two weeks before receiving the sad news, I had the pleasure of speaking with him. As always, our conversation was candid and thoughtful. At one point, Martin remarked, "People never visit anybody except on obituaries." While his words carried humor, they also revealed a poignant truth. Martin lived fully, embracing both thrilling adventures and the quiet joy of caring for others. One unforgettable chapter of his life began with a Harley Davidson, a gift from his mother Geraldine. A seemingly simple ticket from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet—one he never used—led to an unexpected connection with a ballerina. This encounter set him on a healing journey through Jasper, where a symbolic deer crossing mirrored his love for animals. It also brought back memories of his hang-gliding adventures, where he joked, "Gravity always wins." Though I am unable to attend his memorial, I will always cherish our last conversation and the lessons he imparted: to live fully, love deeply, and connect with those who matter most. In his honor, I encourage donations to animal rescue organizations, continuing his legacy of compassion. Eugene Martin, you will be deeply missed. As you always said, "the greatness of the prairie sky." May you await us under its vastness as we seek to return home safe and sound. Se non ci sei tu con me, con me!
