ANNETTE GUERTIN

Annette Jeanne Guertin (nee Ste Marie) was born on January 9, 1917, and passed away on November 11, 2024, at the age of 107. She was the third of 11 children born to Henri and Virginie Ste Marie.

Her formative years were spent in Ponteix, Saskatchewan and St. Boniface, Manitoba. At the tender age of eight she became her mother's helper, tending to family chores and taking care of her siblings. When she was 16, she began working at St. Boniface Hospital in order to help her family financially.

She married Lucien Guertin on November 25, 1939, and together they raised four children, Claudette, Anita, Jacqueline and Gil.

Mother was an excellent cook and gifted seamstress. She took great joy in sharing her talents with family and friends. She often extended a helping hand to anyone in need. Throughout her life, mother's love for family was boundless.

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Lucien (Lou, 2011); sisters, Alice, Irene, Delia, Bernadette, Cecile; brothers, Ben, Gerry, George and grandson Craig Shaw.

She leaves to mourn her children, Claudette, Anita (Peter) Jacqueline (Ed) and Gil (Sharon). Mother was also blessed with eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Foyer Valade for their loving care and concern.

She will be forever missed and always remembered by those who knew her and loved her.

As per mother's wishes, a private service for the family will be held.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • As tomorrow is Annette's birthday, I had planned to visit her today only to find than she had passed away only six days after I had seen her last. I suppose that it comes as no surprise but it was a bit of a shock just the same. Mme. Guertin, as we always affectionately knew her, was my mother's best friend and I considered her as my second mother. I would often visit her after school when the Guertins lived on Enfield Crescent and she would invariably have a little snack ready for me. And we would talk. She attended my high school graduation and presented me with a hand carved crucifix which I still cherish as it proudly hangs in my sunroom. She and Lucien attended our wedding and 25th Anniversary. Every time I saw her, she would ask about our six children by name. Annette was a kind, sweet and gentle soul and I will miss her greatly. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family. A Mass for the repose of her soul will be offered in Lorette at a date to be announced. - Posted by: Denis Robert (Like a mother) on: Jan 08, 2025

  • The memory that stands out in my mind. Were Windsor Park days. The Guertin house was located at the corner across from the bus stop, the door was always open for freezing young Women in those cold winter days, such as my sister and I to stay warm till the bus came. Many years ago🦋 Gisèle (nee Boux). - Posted by: Gisele( nee Boux) (Family friend ) on: Nov 16, 2024
