ALICE RUTH ODD
Alice (Ali) Ruth Odd (nee Hall) passed away peacefully in Victoria on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 6:00 a.m., with her loving husband at her side. She was 78. Special thanks to the Jubilee Hospital, Jubilee Hospice and James Bay home care doctors, nurses and aides for their caring and diligent support of Alice.
Alice was born in Portage la Prairie, MB on March 7, 1946, to George and Ruth Hall. Alice is deeply missed by her husband Richard, numerous friends and family, and her loyal dog Bingo. She was predeceased by first husband Daniel “Bud” Fenny and second husband Jim McGregor.
She graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and received her bachelors and teaching certificate from the University of Manitoba in 1967. Alice taught English and Art in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Sooke and finished her 40 year teaching career in 2007 at the old Belmont High in Langford, BC. She had tireless energy and loved gardening, hiking, exploring and traveling with her husbands, friends and family.
She enjoyed painting seascapes from her home in Sooke looking out over the ocean to the Cascade mountains and was a skilled portrait artist, making many highly detailed drawings of friends and family.
Alice was a two-time cancer survivor and passed that courage and determination on to her students. She loved teaching and had wanted to be a teacher from an early age inspired by her own great teachers.
Alice loved children and her students and tirelessly inspired them to enjoy learning. Blessed with an open and loving spirit, her wonderful smile and light hearted wit will be missed, forever.
A reception will be held on Friday, November 22, 12:00 noon at Royal Oak Burial Park Chapel in Victoria, followed by interment.
