SADIE POETKER

(NEE Loeppky)

OCTOBER 11, 1944 – NOVEMBER 13, 2024

Sara Poetker (nee Loeppky) passed away on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024, after a long battle with dementia.

She is survived by her husband Art Poetker, son Kevin Poetker (wife Angela).

She was born October 11, 1944, to Jake and Sarah (nee Koethler) Loeppky. She was one of twelve children. Her siblings included Henry Loeppky, Susan Thiessen, Mary Loeppky (deceased), Tina Macaulay (deceased), Ann Heinrichs (deceased), Betty Boyce, Lena Bezditny, Jake Loeppky, Joe Loeppky, Esther Loeppky and Jerry Loeppky.

Sara was a nurse for almost thirty years and worked at Holy Family Home nursing for twenty-five years and became head nurse there on her ward.

Sara was known as "Sadie" to her family and friends. She loved to knit. She enjoyed making blankets for charities and also hats/scarves in the winter for shelters. She also made animals and clowns for friends and family.

Sadie loved to cook and bake. Several people over the years ask for her recipes and advice on making food.

Sadie loved to go on adventures with Art and Kevin on the motorcycle. They traveled almost all of Canada doing this over the years.

She loved to play card games with friends and family. Many a time she could be found either going to someone's place or having friends/family come over to play cards.

Sadie donated blood to help people several times a year. Until she turned 70 years old and was no longer allowed to.

Sadie's amazing wit, humor and kindness will always be remembered.

A service will be in summer of 2025, date to be announced when available.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sadie (Sara Poetker) may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Or if you want to donate blood to Canadian Blood Services.
