LORRAINE ELEONORA SCHMIDT

(nee SINGLE)

Peacefully, and surrounded by family, Lorraine left her earthly home on November 8, 2024, at the age of 86 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Herbert in 2014.

She is survived and will be forever missed by her loving daughters; Gerianne Schmidt (Ken Laidlaw) with grandsons, Kyle and Cole; Susan Pearce with granddaughters, Samantha (Billy Piguet) and Charisse; Lisa Greene (Tom) with granddaughters, Alexandra, Jessica and Maya; Krista Summers (Brett) with grandchildren, Aidan and Rebecca Arnold; brother Erwin Single (Eleanor); sisters-in-law, Eileen Single and Victoria Voth; brother-in-law Richard Schmidt (Eleanor); Sean Summers (Janique) and family; Jordan Summers, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was born on September 19, 1938. She grew up in a family of 10 on a farm in Waldersee, MB and attended Cory School. She moved to Winnipeg in 1955 and worked as a secretary at D. Ackland and Son.

On July 6, 1957, she married Herbert Adelbert Schmidt of Waldersee. Their lives were centered around family, and their home was always a welcoming place for family, friends, and neighbours alike.

Lorraine loved to cook and was always trying new recipes. She was constantly busy with her many hobbies such as needlework, sewing, knitting, painting, ceramics, playing bridge, dancing, walking groups, Kinsmen bingo and reading. She was a prolific gardener and would spend hours outside.

Lorraine was an avid fan of the Blue Bombers and Jets and rarely missed watching a game.

Lorraine is described by her grandchildren as creative, resilient, encouraging, wise, talented, determined, loving, funny and tender-hearted.

As her family, we like to believe that she and dad are dancing together again in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue on January 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Engel presiding.

Tributes can be sent to www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I only met Lorraine once at a Bombers game with Susan, but it was obvious to me of her amazing dedication to her family and her resilience as a woman. She clearly was a role model and inspiration for her children and their families. Susan often spoke of her in such an admirable manner, my condolences to all of you❤️ - Posted by: Jacqueline Delaney (Friend of Susan’s) on: Jan 10, 2025

  • Lorraine was the 1st friendly face to welcome us to the street when we moved in decades ago, and also was wanting to “hold that precious newborn baby boy that you have brought with you!” .. She was so good natured and positive, no matter what health challenges she was trying to transcend .. but one word does come to mind to ultimately describe her,… Classy. Heartfelt condolences to her family,.. the street will never be the same. - Posted by: Angie Thain (Neighbour) on: Jan 09, 2025
