Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • We are sorry to hear of the passing of our friend, Gerald. He was known to drop in and enjoy coffee and conversation with many of the regulars at McDonald's at Grant Park. He was a quiet contributor to the various topics of conversation. He was especially interested in Cross Timber Bisons found on Facebook. We had several conversations on that topic. His presence and input to our conversations has been and will continue to be missed. We extend our condolences to his loved ones. - From the folks at McDonald's. - Posted by: Linda and Irv (Friends from McDonald's) on: Dec 01, 2024

  • So sorry to hear of Gerald's passing. I first met Gerald not too long after his accident. I met him through the North End friend group, Peter, Doug, Bob, Pat, Donna, Harvey, Lindsay, Frank and many more. Gerald always seemed happy and sure made us laugh. He really loved to socialize and was a real example of how to manage a tragic life-altering experience. My sincerest condolences to his wife, family and friends. He will be missed! - Posted by: Connie Gratton (Friend) on: Nov 27, 2024

  • I worked with Gerald at the Service Canada call centre. He was so kind and compassionate with the clients, and always strived to give them the information that he needed. His kindness, humour and optimism was extended to his co-workers every day in a sometimes challenging job. I always appreciated his smile and warmth. My condolences to his family and all who loved him. - Posted by: Tammy K (Former co-worker ) on: Nov 24, 2024

  • My most sincere condolences to Linda, Les and their families. I met Gerald when we were around 7 years old and have had the privilege of calling him a friend ever since. We shared many memories and adventures that I will cherish forever. Gerald you have made my life better in so many ways. Thank you my friend I will miss you. - Posted by: Romeo Di Girolamo (Life long friend) on: Nov 24, 2024

  • I worked with Gerald for a number of years in the pensions call centre up until his retirement. In the din of a very busy call centre, his voice always stood out - you couldn't help but pick up on his genuine care, concern, and passion for helping others. He epitomized what Public Service is truly about and brought a human kindness and warmth to thousands of clients he helped across this country. He undoubtedly made more of a difference than any of us will ever know - but, that was Gerald - humble, kind, and someone who truly made the world a better place. - Posted by: Angela Nespiak (former co-worker) on: Nov 23, 2024

  • I’ve known Gerald since we attended Ralph Brown Elementary School together and we grew up on Anderson Avenue. Gerald was always a fun member of our friend group. I reconnected with him after moving back to Winnipeg in 1977 (my family moved to Montreal when we were in Grade 7). I will always remember Gerald’s sense of humour and his positive outlook on life. I find it so hard to believe this kind soul was taken so young. My condolences to Linda, family and all his friends. Gerald you will never be forgotten and always missed. - Posted by: Debby Armstrong Herold (Childhood friend) on: Nov 23, 2024

  • So sorry to hear of Gerald’s passing. Condolences to Linda, family and friends. Gerald and I grew up in the North End on Anderson Avenue, attended Ralph Brown Elementary and later St. John’s High School. Although we knew each other all our lives, we didn’t become close friends until after his accident. Many a night was spent at O’Tooles or one of the local watering holes. Gerald had a bit of trouble accepting his limitations at the beginning, but soon decided he would not allow it to keep him from living his best life. He was always positive and had a great sense of humour. I was fortunate enough to be able to see him a couple of times before he passed, reminiscing about the good times we had. Farewell my friend, until we meet again. - Posted by: Peter Herold (Life-long friend since childhood) on: Nov 23, 2024

  • I have many great memories of Gere, but our teenage years with his cousin Archie Kurilo are the years I hold most fondly. Full of life and high spirits, how we felt on top of the world. Now sadly, both are gone. My condolences to his wife Linda and his family. He will always be in our thoughts. - Posted by: Peter Botan (high school friend) on: Nov 23, 2024

  • So sorry to hear of Gerald’s passing. Gerald was always great fun in the call center. He had a great way in dealing with the clients but was so much fun as a co worker, the songs he’d make up and his “Arnold“ voice. Always professional but fun. Linda I know there will be some really hard difficult days ahead but I hope all your wonderful memories will bring you comfort Gerald always spoke of you in all the best ways and sang your praises always. Keeping you and the family in my prayers and thoughts, Debby. - Posted by: Debby Nelson (Former co worker ) on: Nov 23, 2024

  • Gerald was an amazing person. He was always so positive. It just feels surreal that he has moved on. Sympathies to Gerald’s family and friends. It was a blessing and honor to have had such a wonderful person in our lives. - Posted by: Deanna Mulder Rohrer (Childhood friend from elementary and high school) on: Nov 23, 2024
