Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES MONTGOMERY
It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Montgomery announces his sudden passing in Winnipeg, MB. Born in Yarmouth, NS in 1942, he was the son of the late Irwin Montgomery and Mae Elida (Irvine) Montgomery. Jim was predeceased by his first wife Donna Montgomery, sister, Kendra Barley, and his daughter, Kerri Garrett. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Montgomery; his children, Kirk, Jodi (George), Kory, Kevin (Elizabeth); five grandchildren, Amy, Jackson, Logan, Leah, and Cameron; siblings, Ken (Heather), Elaine, and Janie; nieces and nephews, Marni, Steven, Angela, Katrina, and their children.
Jim attended Assiniboine School and then St. James Collegiate into high school. In 1957 his family moved to Silver Heights in west St. James and Jim graduated from Silver Heights Collegiate in 1962. Jim worked at Sherwin Williams for a number of years before securing a position at Air Canada, where he retired as a crew chief in 1998 after 32 years of service.
Jim had a determined passion to learn the game of golf. Following his retirement, you could easily find him at the driving range or on the golf course with friends and co-workers. When his grandchildren became of age, he introduced them to his beloved game. His other passion was spending his summers camping with his family at Bird’s Hill, St. Ambroise, and Falcon Lake.
The year 2002 was one of dramatic change for Jim. He was first introduced to Audrey by a mutual friend at their High School Reunion. He then received Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour, was baptized, and a short time later, married Audrey at Springs Church, where they faithfully served in ministries like Security, Ushering, Greeting, Guest Services, and facilitating various courses.
Jim and Audrey shared their love of travel, visiting Hawaii, Australia, Panama Canal, Portugal, Spain, Egypt, Israel, and several cruises. In later years they spent winters in Florida and traveled in Canada during the summer, visiting family.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on November 25, 2024, at noon at Springs Church (725 Lagimodiere Blvd.). A live stream of the service can be found here: www.youtube.com/live/iHdaVjMdh2I?si=tdZML5zOM_3OqMBg. A private interment will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations in memory of Jim may be made to Build the Future (new school building campaign) at Springs Church https://springschurch.com/donations/.
