Born in Morochow, Poland in the Sub Carpathia Mountains as a Lemko Ukrainian. She was named Tekla which she later changed her name to Sarah in 1990. Sarah was either 99 or 102 years old, only God will know.
Tekla/Sarah was predeceased by her parents, Maria and Ivan; sisters, Maria, Anna, and Katerina and brothers, Stephan, Volodmyr, Nicholas. Her father died in the 1930s, this is where Sarah learned to be strong with amazing perseverance and religious beliefs from watching her mother, who raised seven children by herself through the depression, Second World War battles, and then operation Vistula a forced relocation by the Soviet regime.
Tekla/Sarah then went to nursing school in Poland and worked in a maternity ward. She then came to Canada in the 1960s to Brandon, Manitoba. She married in Canada and had her only child Michael. She raised her son from the age of three by herself, while working as she separated from her husband. Sarah was a strong-willed lady and believed a women could be independent. She told you what she felt and if she was wrong, she would apologize. Sarah loved nature, camping going to the Ukrainian festival in Dauphin, dance classes, and attending Folklarama. Sarah moved to Winnipeg to be close to her son as she she had an unwavering love for him. Michael will miss his mother so much, but he is happy that Tekla/Sarah is with her mother now in heaven.
