NELSON WILSON SMITH

Passed away at his residence on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at the age of 62 years, Nelson Wilson Smith, of Brandon, MB.

Nelson was born to Marion and Murray Smith on November 20, 1962, being the youngest of six children. He grew up enjoying the many adventures of farm life, and completed his education at Wawanesa School. He was a goalie in his hockey years and learned the love of Rock and Roll as a teen while playing guitar with friends.

In 1994 Nelson and Anna welcomed their daughter Sara-Ann into the world. Sara was his pride and joy in this world. He would always say the best thing he did in life was getting to raise her.

Nelson worked as a welder for Norbert’s Manufacturing, Behlen Industries, CP Rail, KanSteel Manufacturing Inc, and numerous other jobs through the years that helped him develop his ability to take on any task. His most recent work was with his own company Stealth Stone Cold Counters & Floors, really allowing him to show his creativity and skill - and many will enjoy his work for years to come.

Nels could be found in his Dodge truck, touring off to his next job, or chauffeuring a friend in need. Nelson has always had the biggest heart. He was so proud to share his 28 years of sobriety and was always there for any that were struggling with their own issues.

This led him to his final job, as manager of a large apartment complex, where he was on call for plumbing, electrical, carpentry and personal matters for many. The family is hearing how he really went the extra mile for so many that needed a hand.

Uncle Nels was a favorite of every Smith kid. His imagination, wealth of crazy words and names, and huge hugs were loved by them all. Nelson shared his imagination with the kids on the Smith canoe trips as they spotted man-eating birds and Sasquatch burial grounds. His ability to rename each firework display with outstanding names, and encouraging interpretative dance by the kids during the lul to keep the crowd’s attention was an annual crowd pleaser. You could count on laughing when Nelson was around. So many will miss the joy that he brought to their worlds.

Nelson leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Sara Smith (Aden) of Glenboro, MB; brothers, Walter Smith of Baldur, MB, and Cameron (Sandra) Smith of Wawanesa, MB; sisters, Pat (Jim) Pringle of Brandon, MB and Janice (Dwayne) Hope of Winnipeg, MB; nieces and nephews, Sylvia (Barry) Johnston, Wesley (Loreen) Pringle, Steven Myers, Shannon Smith, Cara (Mike) Harms, Justin (Jamie) Smith, Morgan (Dale) Hope and Madison (Liam) Hope; Sara’s mother Anna Smith (Lloyd Coates) of Glenboro, MB; as well as numerous great-nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by parents, Murray and Marion (nee Wilson) Smith; sister Bernice Eamer and brother-in-law Vernon “Bud” Eamer.

A celebration of Nelson’s life will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Wawanesa Community Hall with Sharon Hamilton officiating. Interment will take place in the Wawanesa Cemetery. Reception to follow the service.

Friends that so desire, memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1379 Kenaston Blvd, Winnipeg, MB, R3P 2T5.
