DAVID CHOMIAK
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our dad and Papa, David Chomiak, on November 20, 2024.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Bonnie (Don), Debbie (Jim) and Lisa (Brent) along with grandchildren, Brooke (Robbie), Taylor (Jason), Matt, Tanner, Dylan, and Beth and four great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Onyx-Rose, Nash and Naomi. He was predeceased by his wife, Bobbi, and his sister, Carol.
David was born in Winnipeg and, as a child, he moved within the city many times. He attended several schools (sometimes within the same school year) and this contributed to his friendly nature and ability to strike up a conversation easily with anyone he met. He was a knowledgeable man and could converse about a variety of topics, but his favourites were cars, music, politics, and food. He also loved to tell interesting and funny stories.
After graduating from Glenlawn Collegiate, David worked for CN Rail. He had the opportunity to work for the CBC where he began in the Design Department. He worked his way through various promotions which eventually led him to be the Manager of Human Resources. His people skills were a benefit to him and his colleagues. After several years, his hard work and dedication were rewarded yet again when he was promoted to Television Plant Manager. He loved working for the CBC and believed strongly in public broadcasting.
Upon retirement, David and Bobbi decided to live full-time at their cottage at West Hawk Lake. This was dad's happy place. He enjoyed reading the newspaper while drinking his coffee on the verandah overlooking the lake. He loved driving his boat, especially the slow midnight cruises. He would tinker on his hot rod in the garage and go for long walks with his beloved dog, Hannah. David was a great cook and could whip up a tasty meal with whatever ingredients he found in the fridge. Family and friends always looked forward to Dave's incredible pizza.
David was a talented musician who played several instruments, but his favourite was the piano and he was overjoyed when he finally acquired a baby grand. He had a musical ear and could hear any song and play it on the piano within minutes. He also loved listening to a variety of genres on his high-end stereo system that he was always fine tuning. He had champagne taste, but he managed to do things on a beer budget. This was true of the hot rods that he built and restored including his 1932 Ford and his 1937 Club Cabriolet. Dad's knowledge of classic cars never ceased to amaze his family.
Almost 20 years ago, dad was diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder which required specialized treatments. He was the definition of a lifelong learner and was on his computer researching any information he could find to fully understand his condition.
Unfortunately, David had many health challenges over the last five years and the auto-immune disorder took its toll too. Dad was such a resilient man throughout these challenges, and he maintained his politeness and sense of humour right to the end of his life.
We would like to thank all the staff at Golden Links Lodge for the exceptional care they provided to David and a special shoutout to Helena.
As per Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be appreciated as David loved all animals.
Thanks, Dad, for passing along your work ethic and for teaching us kindness. Give mom an extra hug from all of us.

My sincere condolences to Deb, Bonnie, Lisa and your families. I have so many great memories of your dad over the years. For some reason every memory always involved a discussion around the “Three C’s”! Coffee, Cars and Cooking! After those three topics were taken care of, we always moved on to trading ideas back and forth about our next great garage project! Dave was always a great friend as well as a great co-worker for many years. Those days will always be missed but forever remembered! - Robin Dant - Posted by: Robin Dant (Friend and co-worker) on: Dec 04, 2024

We both worked with Dave at CBC Winnipeg at different times, the last being 1988. Although that is nearly four decades, we both find it easy to remember Dave. In other words, who could forget him? We think it's safe to say that everyone meeting Dave for the first time had the same experience - it was hard to find out much about him. That's because he was so interested in learning about you that he had a million questions. It was only later than you got to know about his great sense of humour, his sincere empathy, his head full of smarts and that he was just a downright 'nice guy'. Rest well, Dave. Sincerest condolences to his entire family. - Posted by: Rick & Bev Inglis (Co-workers) on: Nov 30, 2024

Bonnie, Debbie and Lisa. I have many fond memories of your dad and family, like working together at CBC, and all the great times we all enjoyed together at West Hawk Lake. I learned a lot from Dave, like showing kindness to others, giving to others, and especially how to make great pizza’s. I regret having lost touch with Dave and Bobbi once Joanie’s cancer consumed our lives and her passing in 2012. However, I look forward to the day we’ll all be back together with our Lord in Heaven. You’re all in my thoughts and prayers, and may God bless and comfort you as you grieve. Ernie Warkentin. - Posted by: Ernie Warkentin (Friend) on: Nov 30, 2024
