Date of Passing: Nov 27, 2024
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) JOHN MAGALAS
Peacefully, with family by his side, William "Bill" John Magalas passed away at the age of 82 on November 27, 2024, at the Grace Hospice after a brief battle with Cancer.
Bill was predeceased by his father Jack, mother Ida, and Uncle Billy. Left to mourn is his loving wife of 60 years, Carol, sons, Scott (Lisa), Kevin (Arla), daughter Leanne (Darren); grand-children, Ryan (Kylie), Tanner, Devin, Danika, Bryce and Tayelyn; great-grandchild Chloe; brother Bob (Barbara), sister Beth (Lorne) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Born in 1942, Bill grew up in Old Kildonan while working many summers on the Pichurski farm in Stonewall. He and Carol married in 1964 and after numerous moves, they finally settled into his childhood home. Many renovations followed by his Uncle Fred and friend Alex.
Bill began his career in the industrial rubber products industry with Goodyear and Bearing Supply. In 1974 he made a bold decision to join Garry Henderson at Industrial Rubber Supply. After Garry retired in 1986 Bill continued with the operations of the company with the help of his two sons. Bill was very proud of what his Industrial Rubber Family has accomplished and the growth the company has achieved over the last 50 years.
Bill remained very active on a daily basis until his health prevented him from doing so. Retirement was not a word anybody heard too often.
Bill enjoyed attending the many activities of his grandchildren, very seldom missing a game or concert. He enjoyed many fishing, hunting and racing trips with friends. He especially enjoyed the European river cruises with Diane and Bruce. Bill was very proud that he had spent every New Year's Eve with his friend Ken over the last 60 plus years.
We would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care and Grace Hospice for their compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Glen Eden, 4477 Main Street.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bill's memory to St. Amant Centre, 440 River Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 3Z9.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of my previous boss! He taught me a lot of things about work ethic that I still carry with me today! He taught me the power of an honest days work. My deepest sympathy to his family & the remaining IRS family as a close group, his absence will be undeniably missed tremendously :( I worked with Bill for 26 years and thru the most important stages of my life. As my family grew he was the best boss, very supportive of my duties in and outside of the workplace and for that I will always be thankful, rest in peace Bill. - Posted by: Rhonda Gliha (Former employee) on: Dec 14, 2024

I first met Bill when he joined the staff at Goodyear Winnipeg. He was a real good guy and I can’t think of anyone who didn’t enjoy his presence in the office on Sargent Avenue. I still remember where he sat! I have been retired for several years but remember the fun the Office staff had with employees and the lively chats we had on coffee breaks. Rest in peace, Bill. - Posted by: Joan Kolbauer (CoWorker) on: Dec 13, 2024

In Loving Memory of Bill Magalas It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of gratitude that I reflect on the life of Bill Magalas, whose legacy extends far beyond the professional sphere. I had the privilege of knowing Bill during my early years in Canada when he offered me a position as Quality Coordinator at Industrial Rubber Supply shortly after I arrived with my family. Bill’s kindness, support, and belief in me marked the beginning of a journey that I will forever cherish. - Posted by: Alex Abraham (Employee) on: Dec 09, 2024

As an aspiring apprentice Millwright at 18 years old with no experience, Bill was the only employer willing to take a chance on me, and he sponsored my apprenticeship. Fast forward a few years as I decided a career change was in order and chose to return to school. Bill not only supported my decision, but actively encouraged it, despite it meaning he would lose a good employee. He continued to employ me part time, when no other employer would ever employ a part time Millwright. When I was working toward my engineering degree, Bill offered me an internship to design a machine, even though he knew there was a good chance that it wouldn't materialize into anything in the long term. Bill was a kind man and supported anyone who was willing to work hard and further their career, despite such endeavors not being in his favor. He will be sorely missed. - Posted by: Phil Dubois (Former Employee) on: Dec 05, 2024

I grew up with Carol and Bill in Old Kildonan. We went to Sadie Hawkins together, spent time at the beach in our younger days and have a lot of precious memories. The last time I talked to Bill he was on his way to the cabin and we bumped into each other in Beausejour. He will be missed.
