EVELYN RUTH WINSTON

Evelyn Ruth Winston passed away peacefully November 25, 2024.

She was predeceased by her husband Raymond, her parents, Rose and William Shinoff, her brother Alvin and her brother-in-law Manual Wiseman. She is survived by her children, Phyllis (Wayne), Gail (Tom), Richard (Rhonda), her delightful grandchildren, Jonathan, Steven, Robert and Rebecca and her shining light, great-granddaughter, Rena, her sisters-in-law, Elaine and Shirley and niece and nephews.

Evelyn was a vibrant and beautiful woman. She married my dad Raymond in 1949. She raised her three children in a loving and nurturing home. She was so welcoming to friends and family at both her home and cottage. She loved entertaining not just their friends, but also all her kids’ friends. Our house and cottage were always busy. She loved bridge and tennis and was active when that wasn’t the norm. Evelyn was a Brownie leader and was very involved with her kid’s activities. After she felt her children needed less of her time, she returned to university and graduated with a degree in education and library science. She worked in various schools and tutored students around her kitchen table. She was so proud of them.

As her family grew, she was a loving and caring grandmother. She was always willing to help. She was so proud of them, just as she had been proud of her own children.

Unfortunately, Alzheimer disease robbed her of enjoying the last years of her life. We hope to continue remembering my mom the way she was, before this devastating illness destroyed her life. If you would like to honour her, a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba would have delighted her.
