JANET MARION JONES

1958-2024

Janet Marion (Clifford) Jones, 66, of Almonte, ON (and formerly of Winnipeg) died peacefully in her home on November 26, surrounded by loved ones after a sudden and brief illness.

As a young adult, Jan moved to Winnipeg from Ottawa and worked as a bank teller and fashion model. Her compassion and caring for serving the elderly and those less fortunate were attributes she brought to her job at the bank. On a chilly November night at a rugby social, she met Alan Jones, who would become her loving husband of 44 years. They brought 4 beautiful daughters into the world while living in Ft. Gary and Linden Woods. She had always wanted to be a mother and stayed at home until their youngest was in school. In 1991, they moved to Ottawa, finally settling in Almonte. Throughout their moves, Jan cared about her neighbours and made friends easily.

While in Ottawa, Jan worked in jobs she loved, volunteered as a birth companion, and attended many courses over the years. Through her passion for her children's health and happiness, she developed lifelong interests in natural health and child-centered education.

As her daughters became young adults, she supported their unique and varied interests, from traveling to building businesses.

Once her 2 granddaughters were born, she took on the role of Nana with passion and devotion. She spent so much time with them and was the most joyous witness to their unique personalities.

Jan was fun to be around, loved chatting with friends, was a great listener, and a lifelong learner. She loved travelling, golfing, and a great cup of coffee.

Janet will be intensely missed by her husband Al, daughters Shannon (Bryan), Chelsea (Hans), Brittni (Chris), and Miranda (Nick) and granddaughters Willa and Ada.

She is also survived by loving siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.

  • It still feels very surreal and unbelievable. Her illness came on very suddenly and was very brief. Before that, she seemed healthy and symptom-free and was busy caring for her grandkids, golfing, hanging out with her girlfriends, and travelling with my dad. Last March, my parents came to visit on on the farm. It was a good time to apply biodynamic preparations to the farm. My mom had been interested in the teachings of Rudolf Steiner since my sisters attended Waldorf school. Steiner was the founder of Waldorf education as well as biodynamic farming. Applying the biodynamic preps as sprays to the farm entails spending about an hour stirring the preps in a bucket of water. The preps are like herbal remedies for the land. And as you dilute them and stir them into the water, it becomes somewhat like a homeopathic remedy for the land. And as you stir them, you think about the intentions you'd like for the farm. So, the 4 of us sat in a circle, thinking, saying aloud, sometimes singing or humming. Our intentions were Health, Happiness, Abundance, Balance, Joy, Beauty, Growth.... And then we walked the whole farm, carrying the bucket and used an evergreen branch to flick droplets of this intention-infused preparation everywhere. And as we walked, we kept up with the speaking, singing, and thinking of our good intentions. Since my mom had been so interested in Steiner, but had never had the actual experience of applying the biodynamic preparations, I had wanted her to have this hands-on experience. And now, I'm just so grateful that every inch of our farm has been infused with her loving thoughts. And I'm grateful for so much more. Thanks mom for everything you've given me and continue to give me. I love you so much. - Posted by: Shannon Jones (daughter) on: Dec 14, 2024
