It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Watson on December 20, 2024.
Predeceased by her sister Jaqueline Johnson. Survived by her brother Robert Johnson, husband Brian Watson, children, Heather Pick (Gary), Geoffrey Watson (Lynda) and grandchildren, Fraser, Matthew, Trevor, Kathleen.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Phyllis graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1960. She and Brian married that year. They moved to Vancouver where their first child, Heather was born in 1961. They moved to Yellowknife in 1964 and Geoffrey was born in 1965. Despite raising two young children away from family Phyllis found time to participate in many community activities and serve on the public school board, along the way earning her professional accounting designation. She worked as a senior accountant at Giant Yellowknife Mines and Canada Tungsten Mines.
Returning to Winnipeg in 1985, Phyllis led the accounting departments of Advocate Construction and Pro Auto Body until her retirement in 1995. She continued to be active in the community serving in leadership roles at First Lutheran Church as well as the University Women's Club and the Women's Musical Club.
A gentle spirit with a strong will, she was always up for a laugh, a drink and a good meal with friends and family. She will be missed.

A memorial service will be announced a later date.

Dear Brian - We just saw this sad news online and would like to send our condolences to you, Heather and Geoff. We remember Phyllis with fondness and admiration. She was intelligent, capable and always warm and caring. Two memories from our time in Tungsten. One, meeting John and Geoff at the bus, coming home from school in Winnipeg. The other - Phyllis giving us our first taste of delicious Vinarterta at your Christmas gathering. So many other good memories. I have many fond memories of Phyllis when our ladies group attended MTC, followed by a great chat over a glass of wine. When Phyllis spoke with you she gave you her full attention. I can still hear her gentle voice and feel her focused attention as she shared her deep thoughts and stories. - Posted by: Margaret Livingstone (Family friend ) on: Jan 05, 2025
