DARLENE JOAN MURON

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma, Darlene Joan Muron (Struck), on New Year’s Eve with her family by her side at Gimli Community Health Centre after an 18 month battle with cancer. She wanted to bring in New Year’s with the love of her life of over 50 years Roger, who passed away in November of 2016.

Darlene will be greatly missed by her daughters, Lori and Michelle, son Tim (Linda), grandchildren, Brett (Dayna), Cameron (Courtney), Tyler, Cody, and Owen, great-granddaughters, Kinsley and Chloe, brother George (Lorraine), and nephews, Kevin and Jason.

Darlene was born on September 1, 1942, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She later settled in Winnipeg while her kids grew up and in her retirement years moved to Matlock and Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba.

Darlene was an extremely hard worker and always gave 110% in anything she ever did. She had many jobs but her final career was for the Manitoba Sports Federation where she worked as the Sports Director for Ringette for 16 years. Darlene was dedicated and passionate about building the sport of ringette and she was inducted into the Ringette’s Hall of Fame in 2010. She met many lifelong friends as she travelled across Manitoba to work with ringette boards and across Canada as she travelled with ringette teams competing in the nationals.

Darlene was passionate about giving back to the communities she lived in. She coached ringette and baseball and was a long-time volunteer at Sinclair Park Community Club. Once she retired and moved to the Interlake she volunteered on the Matlock Recreation Board and the Winnipeg Beach Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Mom was always wanting the best for her children. Her greatest pride was her five grandsons who she loved immensely. She cherished every moment she spent with them. She was always beaming with pride when she talked about them! For each grandson she spent countless hours working on a scrapbook of pictures and memories of their first 18 years of their life. She proudly gifted each of them with their own book and personal letter when they graduated. Her grandsons had many sleepovers at her house and her and Dad took the boys on many vacations together. She would always be there cheering them on at hockey, soccer, baseball and curling games. She was so excited when her great-grandchildren, Chloe and Kinsley, were born! She finally had the baby girls she always wanted.

After retirement Mom and Dad spent a few months a year in Guayabitos, Mexico which became their second home for over ten years. Once Dad passed, she continued to travel to Mexico with friends. She loved her little home and family in Mexico and she made many lifelong friends and precious memories.

We would like to thank the doctors at CancerCare for their excellent care and compassion. A very special thank you to the amazing nurses and aides who took care of mom in her final days at Gimli Hospital. Your care and compassion made the process easier. We would also like to thank Julie and Tanis for taking care of Mom when she had her chemotherapy at the hospital. You were so kind and caring and Mom deeply appreciated you.

We would also like to thank all of Mom’s wonderful friends. She loved you all like family and her heart was full knowing that she had you by her side.

Although our hearts are broken saying goodbye; we are relieved that she is free of pain. We take comfort in knowing that Mom is reunited with Dad and dancing in the sky with him while watching over us.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gimli Hospital Cancer Care or Gimli Humane Society.

A private family service will be held in the spring.
