It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dad and papa, Clarke Works.
Dad was predeceased by his wife June Works in 1988 and his brother Reg Works in 2016. Dad has left to mourn his common-law partner Nancy Carter. Thanks to Nancy for taking care of our dad/papa for all those years, especially in the end while trying to keep Dad comfortable. We really do appreciate it. Also left to mourn are his son Darrell (Debbie), daughter Debbie (Ed), grandchildren, Cam, Nicole, Darrell - James, Eddie and Katie June, great-grandchildren, Nolan and Cassidy. Along with numerous friends, nieces and nephews and generations of cousins back home in Nova Scotia.
Dad was born in Truro, Nova Scotia in 1939. Dad and his younger brother Reg were raised by their Uncle Perlie and Grandmother Ada. Dad left Nova Scotia for Toronto in his late teen years looking to make it on his own. He was there for a while until he went further west with a friend looking for more work. That’s when he met Mom in Alberta. Once they were together, they married in Winnipeg and moved back to Ontario where Dad worked and his son Darrell was born. Mom got lonely for home in Winnipeg, so they moved to Winnipeg where they stayed, and their daughter Debbie was born. It was always great going back home to Nova Scotia with Dad for our summer vacations. Seeing all the extended family and hearing the stories of Dad growing up was always a great time. We continued these trips as long as Dad was able to travel, up until 2019.
Dad was always working and was able to do a variety of jobs. Dad was a Heavy Equipment Operator and was an Owner/Operator where he did most of his years trucking. Some years with Kleysen Group and some with Arnold Bros., but mostly on his own. He had many friends that he made in the industry over the years. There were not too many places we could go without somebody knowing Dad.
Dad always had a shop for truck(s) and trailers, so there was always some work going on. Whether the work was done or not, there was always time for a shop party with the guys. Some good times were had there. In his later years at the shop, if not working on trucks or visiting with friends, he would be tinkering with mowers and other small equipment. Dad/Papa always had the big door open for us kids and grandkids to come by for a snack or two, wash our cars or do some work on our vehicles.
Dad and Nancy enjoyed a couple trips to Mexico. In Summer, they enjoyed weekend trips and getaways to do a little camping together.
Dad had a fall in 2020 and again in September 2024. Dad never recovered the second time.
We will keep your memory alive and close to our hearts. We will miss your funny stories and embellishments just to see how long you could go before the grandkids called you on it.
We love you and will miss you, until we meet again, Tootaloo.
Cremation has taken place, and interment will be held in Carman MB beside Mom on May 3, 2025, which is Dad’s Birthday and will be his final resting place. Nancy will also be hosting a small gathering for friends and family at home during the Spring/Summer. Details to follow.

Wonderful memories of a wonderful man! I’ve known Clarke for most of my life and he truly was gifted for telling stories lol but maybe he changed a few things up now and again to keep you on your toes. I remember when Nicole and DJ were born and his very first meet with each of them you could tell he was going to be the best a papa ever and I couldn’t of wished or had a better grandfather for my children. Cheers Clarke and our memories will keep you going down here! Toodaloo til we meet again. - Posted by: Adele (Extended family) on: Jan 18, 2025
