JOHN BRIAN WIENS

August 17, 1941 – January 21, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of John Brian Wiens - brother and uncle - on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at his residence.

John was a private man who lived life on his own terms. He worked as an electrician for most of his career, making many friends along the way. Known for his quick wit, sharp intelligence, and deep commitment to his family roots, John’s passing leaves a significant void in our lives. He will be deeply missed.

John is survived by his sister, Susan Funk (Leslie); brother-in-law, Harry; and his nephews and nieces: Keven (Jacqueline), Curtis (Lisa), Murray (Louise), Eric (Jennifer), Colin (Shirley), Carla (Pete), Trevor (Adrienne), and Bonnie (Gary) and their families.

He was predeceased by his father, Johann P. Wiens (1952); mother, Susan Wiens (1966); and sister, Orpha Funk (2012).

A private family viewing will take place prior to the service. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

In lieu of flowers, and in memory of John, donations may be made to St. Boniface Hospital Cardiac Care.

  • As a friend and the music we shared and also stories we shared together I will never forget the time, rest in peace. - Posted by: ABE HARDER (Friend) on: Feb 06, 2025

  • I have just watched today's service for the late John B. Wiens. I must commend the niece and nephews who spoke about their Uncle John...truly a wonderful tribute to him! They captured the essence of dear John just as I remember him from high school and school reunions over the years. The last time I saw John was at our 50th SCI reunion at which time John was ever so attentive in helping me with carrying all the memorabilia which I was bringing to the event. Another time somewhat earlier John phoned me quite out of the blue and I recall that we had a wonderful chat talking about bygone days when we were classmates at SCI. Thank you for your warm words about John...he really was very special / one of a kind! He will be remembered and missed.
